Damp Towel Sufferers
I'm dealing with ours by putting them over the banister if it's a sunny day and leaving all the south facing, doors open so any heat from the sun seeps into the rest of the house. I also use the airing cupboard to ... well, 'air' the towels
Must admit, this morning is brisk and I'm contemplating putting the heating on for a hour in the mornings - depends on how long this cold snap is going to lastancasta wrote:We got back from honeymoon yesterday (tuesday) and had to put the heating on as soon as walked in the door. we had just got back from las vegas so we were back down to earth with a bump when vegas was in the high 70's, englad was 6 degrees

Well, ive finally put the heating on this morning!!!! Quite proud of myself that ive made it to November before giving in!!!!0
-
Still holding out here but I think we've all done fantastic to get into NOVEMBER!!!!! It sunny here so washing is still drying and, as we are south facing in most of our main rooms, the sun is still giving us warmth. If rain comes in, tho, we've had it.
Getting used to hearing people telling me that they've had theirs on ages cos one thing they won't stand is being cold, and I fully understand. Mine would be on like a shot if I had money but I don't and I remember vividly past times of sheer panic when the bill came in before we took our finances in hand. So until the kids complain they're too cold - we won't!AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

I've had mine on for a couple of weeks. We have an oil fired Stanley (similar to an Aga or Rayburn) and at the moment have it on really low just so it doesn't get cold. It seems to be keeping the house nice and warm constantly, and I've checked the oil consumption in the tank and thankfully I've hardly used any!
I just like to take the chill off the house, mainly downstairs as that's where I am all day and you're not supposed to get bedrooms too warm or you can't sleep properly at night (though that doesn't help when you have to get up in the morning!).
I've also been using it to dry my clothes on and over and next to as we don't have a tumble dryer anymore, and the weather has been so on and off I don't really fancy traipsing in and out with the washing (we're also putting a conservatory up slowly and there's a huge hole you have to jump over to get to the garden each time!).
Also I've found that if you keep it on low you get used to the lower temperature and when you go to other houses who have the heating up more you end up boiling :rotfl:Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!

It really is nippy today, isn't it? Freezing when I was in the garden. Wanting to see if we can hold out until half way through this month - and then review it again. Have to say it was lovely in the car last night, OH and I had the heater full on, savouring it until we had to get out at the house. Think I might have to start getting a bit more sociable with fam/friends if this really is winter set in now. My mum has her house like Bermuda.

I gave in last night and put the heating on.It was quite cold here yesterday.
I am really pleased with myself for lasting out until 1st November though,I put it on much earlier last year.0 -
We have had our thermostat set at 18 degrees since Sept, ready to trip on - the first time that it has tripped on was yesterday!0

still not turned it on here... but boy, you can really feel the difference between the flat and outside when you go either outside or into the communal hall. The HA put cavity insulation into the walls over the summer and i think this is a lot of what is making the difference, that and the fact that our puters run 24/7, so they heat up the small living room. I had the oven on yesterday to make Queenie's incredibly gorgeous biscuits and i will do again today to make bread/xmas cake, and to be honest, that, and a jumper, and the measures we've taken (every bit helps) seems to be enough for the time being. and yes, it frosted over here last night too. It gives me hope that we may be able to get through much more of the winter this year without resorting to heating. I'm sat here now in a t-shirt, for example, it really isn't cold in here.
