I have still not turned mine on - I leave for work early and am never normally home til about 10pm. Have to say though I got up this morning and nearly froze on the spot when I got out the shower. Just soooo loathed to turn it on.
Apparently it is going to brighten up over the weekend though so am going to hold out for abit longer!
Extra blankets and a fat jumper are doing me fine at the moment!Lydia

Been at home all day, and the heating's been on while I've been here. Still wrestling with the idea of turning it off while we're out, then back on again when we get in, or is it best to leave it on low during the day?
Bought a pair of curtains for the front door, cos even though it's double glazed, we've got oak floorboards and there's quite a few gaps between them, and the curtains are a little 'overlong' so seem to be stopping some of the draughts, and they make me feel cosy, and like I'm shutting the outside world out.
Also closing curtains as dusk, to keep any accumulated warmth from the sun in the house.
Also bought a hot water bottle yesterday - can't get to sleep if my feet are cold!0 -
I've succumbed!
I put it on last night, controlled by thermostat at 15 degrees. It comes on for an hour in the morning and 4 hours in the evening. Even at that temperature it's made a big difference to comfort levels. I'm well pleased to have lasted until November.
I'm keeping curtains drawn during hours of darkness and all internal doors shut to stop draughts. No need for 'desperate measures' yet (flannel bedclothes, hot water bottles & bedsocks), they will be held in reserve for much colder weatherOfficial DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -
We've had it on once so far, for a couple of hours last week to help dry the laundry before we went on holiday (I had no pyjamas or pants not in the wash).
Otherwise, none, though I can't feel my fingers right now.
I have put the portable gas heater on, however and it's blasting 3 bars of heat at my frozen feet, currently encased in two pairs of socks and a pair of big plush spider slippers. Tyneside is not warm.
Hot water bottle last night, though.0 -
We lasted until Nov 1st, then I turned it on for an hour during bath time, as the bathroom is absolutely arctic at the best of times. We had it on for bathtime today, but have switched off as soon as littlies in bed, as they have lots of covers and I can just wrap up.
Am chuffed we got through October tho - am hoping we can get through Nov with an hour at tea / bath time and then perhaps an hour in the morning first thing if it gets desperately chilly - we're out a lot during the day, and i forsee lots of edjermacational trips to the library for information and free warmth during the run up to christmas:D
Well done to those who are still holding out.0 -
I have had the heating on for a couple of days. 30mins or so in the morning and about 4 hours in the evening. My house is very drafty especially the living room (door straight out onto the street, covered with curtain at the mo) so I am sat here with the heating on and with a duvet. I am still pretty cold aswell. Most years I have had to resort to using the gas fire aswell, but I am determined to resist. My heating system is very old and I have no way of regulating the temp...it's either off or on. Landlord won't change it either.0

Freezing here today. I was out from 10 am unti about midnight. The new doubleglazed windows are doing a good job, but it's really turned too chilly to be without heating, so I put the fire on in the main room where I am now (I have no central heating by choice).
I must say that my average quarterly gas bill is £20 and the leccy one £35. I don't think I can scrimp any more than this and still have some quality of life.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
