Just been out with the dogs, not nearly as cold as it has been this morning, so no heating going on today.
  • We've been doing the "put heat into the radiators, then turn it off" thing. It takes about 15 minutes to heat all the radiators (we're on 3 floors), which costs about 30p according to our pre-pay card gas meter. So I put it on just before bathtime in the morning, then again just before DS's "getting ready for bed" time at about 8pm.

I'm trying to remind the boys to close the curtains at dusk, but with the fireworks and an 8yr old in the house, there's not much chance at the moment!

I've made a big heavy curtain for our garden door (which lets in huge amounts of cold air, even though its draught proofed) and the kitchen has stayed much warmer since then.

I'm absolutely amazed that we've got this far. This time last year, OH would have had the heating blaring out while he wafted around in his pants - so its quite a change, for us!
:hello: I'm very well, considering the state I'm in. :hello:

  • We haven't had ours on since yesterday morning just for an hour and it's not as cold as it has been last few days, no frost this morning, so will leave it off till the next cold snap I think.

I like your idea of just heating up the rads then switching off PoshPaws so might try that at bath times if OH complains it's too cold ;)

We had ours on yesterday for the first time.
It was nice to have a shower and find lovely warm towels hanging over the radiator:)

I'm still holding out. But can't see that I will be for too much longer.

I lasted a further 12hours :rotfl: After posting that, I went to bed and my poor feet were chilled to the marrow!

Thermy on low though, so I know it will only come on to keep the chill off.

tawnyowls - :T yes, I agree, lasting through to November is some achievement :T :D

  • Mines just started coming on, thermostat set at 18degs, only comes on mornings and evenings,
because the sun shines in through the windows from late morn till 3:00pmish,
have been using gas fire to, I don't like being cold.
    done well,to get this far.:o
  • Brrrrrrrrrr it's cold this morning, just got back from walking the dog and I'm freezing! :snow_laug so have finally given in and put the heating on :p

Is anyone else still holding out? I'm so pleased we managed to hold out so long, not counting the hour it was on last weekend for testing it ;)
  • We've had it on in the mornings for 1/2 hour to warm the bathroom and a couple of times in the evening for an hour. We've been given loads of free fire wood though so we have lit a fire a few times. Don't know if that's bad or good!

I can't do cold beds though so the electric blanket has been in use for a couple of weeks now. I bought a bed spread from IKEA which we use as a throw in the living room (the coldest room) if we're only in there for a bit watching telly.

We're determined our gas/electric will not break £100 this quarter. We average about £50 in Spring/Summer but usually £130 over winter so we're challenging ouselves. :D

3 x 30p per day, doesn't that add up to about £27 per month? Plus any other gas you use. That sounds quite alot to me?

I haven't even considered the heating yet! It really isn't cold enough. We've ordered one of these things to make fire bricks out of your old newspapers. Anyone tried one?
