We have been using the gas fire in our living room for the past week. We try to keep the time and heat of it down by wearing extra layers etc, but we really do need it on as our clothes are on airers and are taking ages to dry.
That said we haven't touched the electric storage heaters since we moved in (about five weeks ago), and we don't intend to until it gets really chilly.I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair

Mine's been on every day (at least 8 hours a day) for the past 3 weeks! As well as oil central heating, I have an open fire, so at night, I've lit that a few times over the past week as well. I can't do coldness .... at all .... not for any amount of moneysaving:beer:0

Ok, I gave in and put it on for an hour this morning, only to test it's all still in working order mind
OH wanted to warm his towel on the radiator for his bath ... men!!!
It really isn't that cold in here, but I think we're lucky being sandwiched in a terrace and the neighbours heat is seeping through our walls lol0 -

Never touch it all year round (apart from to put the clock back/forward). It's on a timed thermostat so it comes on of its own accord when the weather gets colder. It's been pulsing in and out for about three or four weeks now.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0

I've been putting mine on for a little while before bed lately - I leave it off during the day and just wear a jumper and drink hot drinks.DFW Nerd No. 140

we just gave in and turned ours on.. we knew it was getting too cold when we realised that both of us were struggling with stiff, cold fingers.. we'd been okay in previous days because the sun shines on this half of the house, heating up the living room.. but with it clouding over.. we've been feeling the chill.
not only that.. our washing was really struggling to get dried and we've got a fair bit of it - sheets n that - and no more drying space, and OH is running out of t-shirts!!!
ah well.. hopefully we can turn it off again when the weather warms up again in the next couple days.. gonna experiment with on-all-the-time-but-low vs two-short-but-hot-blasts, see which one uses up more gas (we're on a combi boiler).
anyone else still holding out?
