  • Or just go Hotpoint/Beko/Smasung and accept you change it more often because it is a quarter of the price?

could do, but the reason i would or i assume others would be prepared to pay that much more for bosch or miele is probably because they've had a bad experience with other brands, or that they have worked out that hopefully it will last them a while longer and won't have to keep buying a new machine every 3 or 4 yrs. not because they are being flashy.

Don't disagree but just because it costs a lot more doesn't guarantee it will last/perform better. Often it is the luck of the draw and the way it is used/abused.

Bad experiences can be had with any brand. The reason you hear more from the "lower end brands" is they sell a lot more of them.

Don't dispute modern ones are perceived to last a shorter time as all manufacturers try to pare out costs. Older ones had bigger tolerance for failure maybe. Older ones didn't have so many features, didn't have such big loads and fast spin cycles for instance.

I believe Siemens and Bosch are made in the same factories. Siemens tends to have high higher spec add-ons i.e. the basic machines are built with the same components.

I have recently purchased a Bosch as it was the most water efficient model I found (I have a water meter so this was a consideration) - there is currently an offer for energy back, you apply for it separately after purchase but get £68 cash back on the model I bought.

It also came with 2 years additional (on top of standard 2 years) warranty, again by application after puchase.

Thanks for the response. I am aware of the offers and Siemens have a similar promotion going on. From what I've read Siemens is generally better than Bosch but I can get a logixx (high end Bosch made in Germany) or Siemens for the same price, which is making it really tricky for me to decide

As I said, Siemens own Bosch and the products are made in the same factories. Therefore the same technologies, expertise and component parts are used. There does not appear to be any difference in build quality that I am aware of. The difference appears to be that Siemens products are more highly stylised (more of a "lifestyle" brand) and have additional functions/options etc but at an additional price as well - you pay your money and take your choice.

I recently bought a Siemens fridge freezer and a Bosch dishwasher. I examined the features and chose models that had what I needed. Money wasn't the issue - the Bosch dishwasher had the features I wanted (the most water-efficient).

With the fridge freezer it was the Siemens that had all the various features I wanted (energy A+++, large freezer capacity etc) and I got the £100 cash back part exchange offer on it but it doesn't come with the extra 2 year guarantee that the Bosch dishwasher does.

Bosch recently won Which?'s appliance of the year and I think the 'money where their mouth is' with the 4 year guarantee indicates the brand is being fully supported - there had been some perceived loss of quality following Bosch being acquired by Siemens.

Plus, on top of all this, you can call it the dish-boscher!!!:rotfl:

As I said, Siemens own Bosch

No they don't. Siemens and Bosch are the parent companies of Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH, a joint venture between the two companies. They do however own the likes of Neff and Gaggenau.

Really? People have been thinking that since 1967 when the companies joined up??

    Get your facts straight...please...

How can one have facts about opinions?
And as for who owns who - potato/pota(r)to. As far as the query of the OP goes it is exactly the same thing.

Get out of the wrong side of the bed did we?

I can honestly say that I was trying to be helpful and answer the OP's queries. Can you do the same???

You made a statement (i.e. Siemens owns Bosch) which is wrong so I corrected it.

It wasn't based on your opinion, it was based upon what you believed was fact.

If I'd have got out of bed on the wrong side, I'd have picked out all the other things you said that were wrong, but I didn't. I just wanted to make people aware of the FACTS...
