It is confusing when manufacturers take over other named brands isn't it ? I'm replacing my Service dishwasher which has been brill. for almost ten years. The internal layout is sensible and practical, trouble is, I can't establish who took over this label cos Service don't appear to exist any more.
Hi
All dead and gone now I think.
If you still need a new dishwasher then plenty on MSE will say its got to be German from Miele, Siemens, Neff or Bosch.

We have a Hotpoint and our boys and little girl haven't manage to break it yet but it is only a year old!!
Where is the on button???

Hi all
we just moved into a new house, and need to get an integrated dishwasher. Looking to stay here for 10 years, so from the sound of things its Bosch or Miele. Miele is a bit too much so can anyone recommend the best value Bosch 60cm integrated washer available now? They have a huge range, and enormous variance in pricing. Its a bit of a minefield. Currently only two of us in a 3 bed house, so one run per day maximum.
Do you really get your moneysworth by paying for the model which is 200 quid more than the other one?
Can anyone recommend?
Cheers

Wow, there's a lot of duff info on this thread other than from some people who either are in the industry or have done a bit of research.
First off, Beko spares are easy to get and, TBH, usually not that badly priced either. If you get horrific prices for Beko spares then ask me.
Second, cutlery drawers. There's two schools of thought, Miele's (and the people that have copied them now the patent has expired) and everyone else. Miele says that cutlery gets cleaned better and that it's safer. Well, the drawer is at the very top where the spray is diminished and the heat lessened, so the jury is out on that one. The second is that old safety chestnut, in 20 odd years in the industry I've heard of, perhaps, three instances of people falling on a cutlery basket with a knife in it pointed up the way, I don't regard it as a huge risk.
The point about cutlery baskets breaking is a valid one but, since a universal cutlery basket costs less than a tenner and they're expected to last about 3-8 years is the extra cost of the drawer really a good choice? Even the pukka baskets generally cost less than £20.
That's a lot of cutlery baskets you can buy for the price difference.
As for who owns which brand, most of it can be found in this section of UKW where I detailed out that and a general history and overview of each brand, with notes on spares pricing and technical information policies where I had it. But the major ones can be found in this one small article which tells you who owns what brand. What it doesn't tell you is that John Lewis appliances are rebadged Electrolux Group products, basically. Although JL will try to trick you into thinking that they're German when they just aren't.
All Hotpoint products are now Indesit basically. Slight cosmetic and spec changes but, other than that, they're Indesit. CK was correct, they used to have a deal with Bosch but that ended when Indesit arrived.
The cheaper Bosch models are made in Spain and Poland I think and are not the same thing as a pukka German Bosch, that's likely what the repairer meant. Basically Bosch (as well as others) have had to lower the quality on the entry and mid market machines to compete on price as that's what people seem to want, cheap appliances... good appliances tend to be asked about once people have had a pup or two and gotten their fingers burnt on the rubbish that's out there.
For integrated, most of the cheap ones you will see (under about £300-400) will be cheap, very nasty and extremely poor Chinese tat that we even refuse to look at on a chargeable basis as the recall rate on them is so high. Not for any other reason that they are utter garbage.

My integrated Neff dishwasher is still going strong after 14 years of daily use.0

We inherited one of the higher-level Bosch ones from the in-laws recently (they're not the sort to go for the entry-level ones)... it's fantastic, fabulous, sexy, wonderful, brilliant, amazing, idiot-proof (if the resident idiot would learn how to fill it properly we'd be even better), the best domestic invention known to humanity... I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Gets the dishes amazingly clean, is idiot proof - flashes up exactly what needs topping up when it does, really impressive.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

Sounds that good I want one
What model is it?0 -
i have top of the range bosch d/w for 6 years now & no probs at all..BUT,am starting to go off bosch pretty rapid.heres why.mums wash/mc just been written off,was top of range 5yrs ago at £560ish,week before her oven written off 5yrs old at £600 ish,now my neff hob the ignition box is playing up 6months old at £300+
i use to work for bosch as enginere 10years ago now back then they was best value for money, milie was top dog.but rekon since they have been made in poland/spain they have cost & quality,
on avarage back when i was fixing them,i would say the life span was 5-10years for there appliances & did come across the odd dw that was 25yrs old.
what i would say,you dont need an all singing & dancing model,as you will only use 1 or 2 programs anyway.keep it basic= less to go wrong
oh,ps my 2yr old bosch pressure washer gone kaputt also.the only thing that iv not got which is boch/neff is the f/f which is 8yrs old is a whirlpool & still fine!0 -
I'd like to say Bosch but our top of the range Excell had to be repaired twice and then it gave up altogether after 3 years. Had a (relatively) cheap Hotpoint now for five years, had no problems wwith it at all."...IT'S FRUITY!"0

But the cutlery baskets take up a lot of space too & if they are in a drawer then you can get all your arkward & bulky roasting tins & stuff in.
We put a new kitchen in 3 years ago, I've now decided DH was right & we should have taken the middle wall out & gone for a big open plan space, so now I want to take the wall out & put a new kitchen in (got light oak, want cream now:o).
So I have to suffer my crappy Hotpoint DW or buy a good one, & replace it with a built in one when we redo the kitchen:eek:
Neither seem a good option, I wonder if I could put a built in one in a 60cm gap? Then I can reuse it???0
