We just purchased this http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/450480/SIEMENS-SN25M830GB from a local Euronics dealer for £429 incl 5 yr warranty. It has the cutlery basket as opposed to the drawer and suits us better as it's the opposite end of the kitchen to the cutlery drawer ;-)

Ones with a basket rot/break & crack in the bottom from constantly throwing cutlery in there.

PLUS that cutlery basket takes up a lot of room stuck in the middle of the lower shelf. If that wasn't there it would be so much easier on a Sunday with all the tins, or just whenever you have lots of bulky stuff.

The drawer is just a slimline draw right in the top, taking up no shelf room in the crockery, saucepan & tin shelfs.

Just had the repair round to try and fix our 5-year-old Bosch Classixx dishwasher. Interestingly he said that it is just a Hotpoint with a Bosch badge. If it had been a "proper Bosch" he reckoned it would be worth repairing by replacing the pump (£140) but as it was really just a Hotpoint he thought we would be better off getting a new machine.

He said that the proper Bosch machines are good but thought Zanussi now offer the same quality at a lower price.

I don't want to spend too much as we intend to move house next year, so it's probably not worth spending a lot on a high-quality machine only to find it doesn't fit in with the new kitchen. I'd be interested to know people's opinion on the best machine for £300 - £400.

Miele is sposed to be the best but I couldnt afford that. The next in the best buy Which was the AEG Favorit which I now have and its been great. It replaced a whirlpool which was only a month out of its years guarantee when it packed up and which (having paid him £60 call out) the repair man said it was a "known fault" !!! and would cost about £200 to repair.

I shall be insuring this one with Dom General as it would be worth the money when a call out is £60

Our AEG conked out after less than 3 years. John Lewis refused to pay up, but eventually agreed to pay for the new motor after we threatened to take them to court ;)

We inherited another d/w when we moved anyway, but when that one died (it was a Neff, dunno how old, basic but fine) we splashed out on a Miele. Definitely worth it for the guarantee alone -- does a great job too, and very quiet.

    Miele, Seimens or Bosch.

Whichever you get make sure you get the cutlery DRAWER not the cutlery basket.

Totally agree. I have a Miele and it washes superbly. Everything comes out crsytal clean and sparkling like new. It's also so quiet that you wouldn't know it was on!

What I also love about it is it's cutlery DRAWER. I can't think why other dishwashers don't have drawers! It gives so much more space - and is far safer too. I've read of a few cases where people have tripped or slipped and fell onto their cutlery basket. One poor woman actually dies after falling onto a knife. So drawers every time!
  • I have a Miele G 645 SC Plus and it is about 5 years old and it is broken, the top washing arm is not cleaning stuff, not sure why at this time.
Miele do not recognise any 5 year warranty and will only come out to fix it if we pay for another years warranty as part of the call out, what a rip off.
Does anyone know were I can get some good, free troubleshooting advice.

I'm afraid your repairman was wrong. It's the other way around - Hotpoint's dishwashers and Bosch's cheaper models, re-badged.

    Hi

Did your machine come with a 5 year warranty and if so did you fill in the form and register it? As it would seem Miele hasn't got your details it looks like you didn't. Anyway, have you removed the arms and given them a good clean out, making sure all the holes are clear as food particles sometimes block the holes reducing its cleaning performance.

    Hi

Actually I thought in the early 90's Hotpoint purchased and re badged Bosch dishwashers and then later in the 90's early 00's produced them themselves to the Bosch design under licence. And now as they are part of Indesit, they are now cheap Italian ones!

  • It is confusing when manufacturers take over other named brands isn't it ? I'm replacing my Service dishwasher which has been brill. for almost ten years. The internal layout is sensible and practical, trouble is, I can't establish who took over this label cos Service don't appear to exist any more.
