We've had several dishwashers over the years, from basic models to delux, and they have all been pretty similar in cleaning ability, where they've differed is in noise level and practicality.
For example ,our last dishwasher was Hygena , a horrible machine, noisy , glassware on the top tray often tipped over during the wash and filled with dirty water, if they were put on the bottom tray the stronger spray often drove them into the plates and cracked them.
Our new machine is a Beko, its too soon to judge its reliability, but so far its the best one we've had. Very quiet, the top tray is height adjustable, and has a fold away rack to secure glasses, and the heating element is under the floor , so nothing gets jammed in it.
The programs are easy to understand and use, and a light tells you when the cycle is finished.
Some other makes ,have the controls in the top of the door, and you need a magnifier to read the programs.

I have had a Miele dishwasher for close on five years, it has performed very well and I've never had a problem with it. It came with a free 5 year guarantee which it looks like it will outlive very easily.
  • What a minefield! My Hotpoint slimline gave up the ghost just last week after 21 years. It worked perfectly right to the very end and I'm still wondering if it is something easily fixable (I can't really believe it's gone) but my OH has disconnected it and thinks it's about time we laid it to rest. When the machine was bought the Hotpoint, Bosch and Siemens slimlines were all identical and the story was that they were all Siemens but with different labels. I am expecting to move in the next couple of months so until then will be washing up by hand, worst luck. What bad timing.

I have read all the above and I'm now more confused than ever as to what to get for the new house. I want it integrated and everybody tells me to get a full size one as I won't be short of space. Taking everybody's comments on here into account, considering their price, Beko and Indesit seem the best buys.

    Hope
  • How much did you pay for your Hotpoint/Bosch/Siemens back in 1994? And how much will a new Beko or Indesit cost now?

Odds are that the replacement washing machine will be cheaper in actual as well as real terms: despite 16 years of increased labour and raw material costs.

The manufacturers are not magicians. The only way they can do this is by reducing quality, so don't expect a new cheapo machine to be as reliable or long lived as your old one.

    Go for a Miele/Siemens.
  • We inherited a Bosch integrated dishwasher with our kitchen - must be 8 years old now. Stamped Made in Germany, so that's a relief! Works absolutely perfectly. In our last house we also inherited a dishwasher, I think it was a Candy. It must have been 15 years old and worked fine!

I'd like to put in another vote of support for Beko. We bought ours from Currys for under £200 it's A rated for efficiency and we've never needed to use anything other than the 30min quick wash. Bosch and Mielle may be better built but they often cost twice as much. Contrary to what has been said here Beko spares are also easily available from several online sites and the manufacturers website carries a comprehensive set of parts for all their models.
  • Fred7777, that's exactly why I think I may get a Beko - you are at least the second person on here to mention the above points.

NicolaL, you are right, I did pay about £225 for my Hotpoint all those years ago. Lots of things are much cheaper now, children's clothes and disposable nappies spring to mind while I'm reminiscing, but I had a Bosch washing machine which only lasted for about six years before the motor gave out and it had had a few repairs in the interim. I don't want to pay a premium for Bosch/Miele and then get problems.

Mmmm, not sure ....... and I've got a whole houseful of stuff to get, including new kitchen and bathroom. Any more opinions?

    Hope

I bought a bottom of the range Miele dishwasher about a year ago that cost about £500 and came with a two year guarantee. I'm not especially pleased with it in terms of cleaning ability, though. It actually seems a bit worse than the Bosch Classixx it replaced (which lasted about 5 years).

A few months ago I purchased a more expensive Miele washing machine (just over £1000) because it came with a ten year guarantee and I have to say it is excellent. I know comparing a dishwasher with a washing machine isn't comparing like with like, but I get the impression that the higher end Mieles are built quite a lot better than the cheaper ones - hence their willingness to offer ten year guarantee.

Both purchases were rush decisions as I needed to replace a broken appliance. However part of me now wishes I's spent a bit extra and got one of the higher end Miele dishwashers.
  • my Bosch Aquatech packed up after nearly 12 years so now looking for a new machine. I think the pump/motor has gone.
Should I go for Bosch again ?? any recommendation please.
