Oscar wrote:Burger/Steak/Natchos ..somewhere like TGI Fridays or Hardrock. Also Italian or decent British Pub grub/Bar supper.
Similar to TGI there is Old Orleans, near Lendal Bridge (for further money saving google it and you can get a card for 10% off although they often give you more).
Oscars apparently does burgers although haven't been myself. A lot of student friends ahve though so can't be too expensive. Advice if there's a group of you to book.
Italian, there's the usual Ask and Zizzi's in the centre. Also one called Tuscany which is nice, I went the other week for the first time. Very filling. If you're eating mid-day then they go a deal - think it's two courses for £7.00 11am till 5pm.
Italian just out of the centre is Toto's, round from cliffords tower, nothing specail but between 5 and 6 any pizza or pasta is £5. Choice of here or Tuscany would defo be Tuscany.
Hope this helps, any more info just shout!0 -
I'm afraid I don't know the numbers off hand but they should be available from yell.co.uk if you're interested:
Little Bay - branches dotted around London. The South Croydon branch is lavishly decorated with ornate MDF and swags of velvet, christmas lights and model boats  It sounds mad but in fact it's great. The food is European, good if you're someone who doesn't fancy spicy food. The prices are reasonable especially if you get there for happy hour - so long as you arrive by 6PM every course is discounted. Three courses for about £10.
Noodle Time - this is a chain, I've seen it in Croydon and Greenwich. Cheap and cheerful Chinese, not very classy but you get lots. The main meals are huge so don't bother with the starters which were a bit pricey and not that nice IMO.
Wagamamas - branches all over central London and more opening in the 'burbs. The cheapest meal is Cha Han, it's basically fried rice with bits in plus you get a bowl of miso soup and some pickles. The veggie version is even cheaper, it's very filling and costs around £6. A little known trick is to order green tea to drink - it's free! The starters are gorgeous but you can skip them as the mains are very filling.
Aroma - another chain, Chinese/Oriental all you can eat buffet. I've been to the one by Vue cinema in Shepherds Bush and it's very good, they fill up the trays regularly so the food is fresh and hot. Lunch is about £5 - £6 a head, cheaper for children.
Chowki - an Indian restaurant off Piccadilly. They have plain furnishings a bit like Wagamama, the best value is the set three course meal which was about £12 last time I went. The menu changes all the time and you can try unusual dishes you don't find in ordinary Indian restaurants. OK it's not dirt cheap but it's darn good value for central London.
Mirch Masala in Tooting and another branch in Norbury - really cheap Indian food in very plain surroundings! It's like eating in a transport caff. BYOB. It's always full of Asians from the local community and on Saturdays you have to queue to get in. It's been recommended by loads of food writers.
And a personal favourite - Mantanah, Portland Road London SE25 near Norwood Junction rail station. The food is wonderful, the staff are attentive and they even have Thai wine. Two courses and a bottle of house plonk shouldn't cost more than £30 for two people. They get rave reviews in the press but sadly they aren't busyAgain, not the cheapest meal but it's fantastic value - you'd pay double that anywhere else.
These are all child friendly except possibly Chowki, I've never seen children in there and the set meal might be too much for little appetites.0 -
Little Bay in Kilburn lane NW6- absolutely superb food and 3 coures for a tenner! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
My recommendation is for Tayyab's 83-89 Fieldgate Street, London E1 1JU.
Unpretentious canteen style setting, but Fantastic fresh charcoal-grilled sheek kebabs, lamb or chicken tikka and chops! Authentic Pakistani dishes, loved by locals and media types alike!! Always wise to book ahead. BYOB. Only down-side is that the restaurant closes for the whole month of Ramadan!0 -
There is a seafood restaurant in edinburgh called 'sweet melindas' where on a tuesday there are no prices and you pay wht you think the meal was worth.
There was a french restaurant in London called' just around the corner' offering the same, but I'm not sure if it is still open.Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -

mirandamayhem wrote:Cheltenham has That Mexican Place on winchcombe street. Reasonably priced, generous sized portions. If you have a starter you can rarely manage a pud! Their cocktails are (or were) impressively boozey if you go for a jug.
Gloucester has Siam Thai on Park Road, which does an all you can eat buffet on a wednesday night.
and there is a place by the bus station called aroma, that does all you can eat chinese buffet. I haven't been, but i hear good things about it.
Ooh, my bro works at That Mexican Place(I'm ashamed to say I haven't been so don't know what it's like)
I've been to Aroma in Gloucs though and it was alright, but not a patch on a place we've been to in Swindon that does a Chinese buffet (I think it's called New World, but not sure). The food was tasty but not replenished very often and a little samey (lots of noodles and batter).
The Everest Indian restaurant in Cheltenham is excellent.
One of the best country pubs in the area is the Fox and Hounds at Bredon.Do I Need One Stops All Unnecessary Reckless Spending£2 CSC - £30 :kisses3:0 -
Lady_E wrote:Sorry folks back to London again , specifically East Finchley N2.
The best ever restaurant in the world is the Meze Bar in High Rd East Finchley . Serves Greek/Turkish/European and is very very good, value for money and delicious food. Further down the road is the Italian La Pensiro which is very good. Both serve lunch and are suitable for all occasions .
Really? You know have lived there for most of my life and never been....think I'll give it a go thanks, personally, the Two Brothers Fish restaurant on Ballard Lane Finchley used to be unbeatable, my opinion, they used to get the fish fresh from Borough market every morning...yummy! But I can't speak for it right now as I haven't been for the last two years....0 -
South East: The Angel in West Malling does fab pub grub. Their menu has a very good range. Basically, you could go in and just have a sandwich or you can fill your boots with a 3 course meal. Lovely, welcoming pub with a hugh open fire for winter and a beautiful patio for the summer. I recommend this very highly.£2 Saver Club (started 24th March '06) going towards No. 2 Son Cub trip!!

Nabis Indian Restaurant is opening up where the Happy Chef was (no loss there then in my opinion I only liked the pancakes!) Anyway going back to the Indian, the food is nice & spicy. When we used to go to their restaurant in town it was always spot on. Can recommend *****0
