    Hiya.....

The lighthouse Inn in Capel-Le-Ferne near Folkestone is great.

Foods fantastic, small childrens room for them to have a play in up till 8pm, nice garden with swings and slides etc.

Bar area is adults only but nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

They do a good range of food from lightbites to al a carte, kids meals are great too.

This is in response to the original poster's query, though I know it's too late now! Sorry, I've never read the local board before. Perhaps it will help somebody else.

The Palladium's somewhere off the east end of Oxford Street, isn't it? There's a noodle restaurant on Soho Street (just off that end of Oxford Street, opposite the Plaza shopping centre) called Soba. They have happy hours from 5-7pm on weekdays, longer on Saturdays (can't remember exactly) and all day Sunday, where you can get any main course for £4. Normally they're about £6.50 which is still cheaper than a bowl of pasta at most Italians in London.

The food is yummy, the service is very fast and seems friendly, and the drinks are reasonably priced. The happy hours are great because they're ideal for pre-theatre!

Teoh's in Bristol. They have two branches, one in Tudor Road, BS2 and one in Bedminster, by the Tobacco Factory. Authentic oriental food, vouched for by various nationals.

For Indian(napalese) I have to recommend The Munal, bottom of Dover House road Putney. Huge portions, no need for a starter as unless you have starved for a week you wont get through the main courses. Me and DH usually share a rice and main dish and we both have big appitites. Around £10 a head with beer.

For Chinese/japanese Slurp Noodle bar in Wimbledon broadway. Canteen style (sharing bench tables) serving huge one plate freshly cooked meals. The bento box and ramen make for a slightly different experience at around £6. The freshly pressed juices are delicious. Great place for a pre theatre or cinema meal

Whilst there are some good value restaraunts I could recomend the easiest way to access them and get free food is to join Hi-Life Diners club at https://www.hi-life.co.uk. The membership is currently about £45 but for this you get a restaurant directory with about 700 restaurants in it; each of these has an offer which may be just a free main course but many offer 3 courses free if you buy 3 courses, i.e. 2 of you can eat out for the price of one and some of the restaurants will let you take advantage of the offers more than once.. Unfortunately the scheme is not nationwide but is growing and stretches from Congleton/Macclesfield area up to Cumbria and from Liverpool to Yorkshire going West to East. For anyone in the Manchester/Bury/Rochdale area I would strongly recommend 'Old Hucky's' in Heywood; Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday they have a 3 couse specials menu for £15.95 - food and service excellent and wine list reasonably priced. I must state that I have no connection with Hi-Life other than being a member and none with 'Old Hucky's' other than being a very satisfied customer.
  • Rafu's in Highworth and Swindon have a "786" deal on take-aways from Sun-Thurs. As the name suggests, £7.86 and a choice from 3 menus all offering a main course, vegetable curry (the size of a main!), rice and naan bread. Great food and one portion is enough for 2!
