If anyone's down Willesden Green way in NW London, we (perhaps surprisingly) have six highly recommended restaurants.
1) Sushi-Say - (020 8459 2971 - Walm Lane)
Japanese sushi/noodle bar serving extremely fresh fish (cooked and raw!). Window full of stickers from Time Out/AA/Egon Ronay/Evening Standard and other guides. Reasonable prices. Food is fantastic. A real gem.
2) Mezerama (020 8459 3311 - Walm Lane)
This serves Mediterranean food. You can see the chefs prepare the grilled food when sitting in the restaurant. It has your typical seasoned meat / rice / fish. Service is quick and friendly and the menu is extensive. Bread and olives are quickly placed on the table once you have settled. I particularly recommend the specialist coffees for afters - they don't measure the shots of alochol! Again it has been reviewed in a number of publications.
3) Little Star - (020 8830 5221 - Station Parade)
This is just round the corner from Willesden Green tube station and I would say the cuisine is contempory european. It has Italian influences (there is a sister restaurant in Kilburn called Small and Beautiful) and again, the service is friendly. You get complimentary bread and olives and the waiters are always happy to go through the menu with you if required. Also serves lunch for £5.50. Booking recommended at the weekends!
4) The Green (020 8452 0171 - Walm Lane)
This is the latest and poshest place to eat and the prices reflect that. It has an outdoor garden with heaters, which with summer coming up will fill up pretty quickly after work. Not had food there but have heard it's worth the prices!
5) Shish (020 8208 9292 - Walm Lane)
A lot like Mezzarama, this eaterie has a glass frontage and a beer terrace. It has a great atmosphere - esp. when busy. Serving Mediterrranean / North African cuisine, again the prices are reasonable and the kitchen is open allowing you to see the food cooked. They also do a takeaway service. Food is very tasty and they have lunchtime deals. Specialities lean towards the kebab side but they are much better then the ones you get from a greasy takeaway!
6) Kadiri's Kitchen (020 8459 0936 - Willesden High Road)
Classic Indian that's been serving Willesden for nearly 30 years. There's an open kitchen and this place specialises in exotic biryani dishes. There's a satisfaction guaruntee and if you don't like the dish - you don't pay!:j Take That 23/12/2007:j :dance:0 -
Thanks for all of those Fran.0

Hi
I can recommend a good curry restaurant it's called Lahore ( prounounced
like La Hoare sounds like a french tart LOL)
This restaurant is very basic It has no licence to sell beer and spirts ,so you take your own in,and they dont charge for doing it either.
I'd recommend the keema mince , Kahari chicken , their Nan bread is out of this world .
Meal for 2 Eg : Keema mice curry, Kahari chicken ,rice ,2 Nan bread , £14.00 popadums & side salad are free . This is a great restaurant.
Location : 5 minutes walk from Harrow & wealdstone Just past Harrow Civic centre on the right hand side. It's nice to be Important
But It's Important to be nice0 -
Woodside (near Ascot Racecourse) has a pub called the Duke of Edinburgh which has a great restaurant inside, lovely food, good service and not too badly prices (a treat rather than a family lunch!)
Would love to know of more in my area, Surrey/Hampshire/Berkshire borders

Well first a warning..steer clear of the all you can eat buffets in china town, london - they all taste like rubber and are not very clean with appaling service..
But onto the good ones..Greenwich has a few excellent chinese and vietnamese restaurants..the best being noodle time where the most expopensive main is £4 - the food is amazing, as good quality as restaurants charging twice as much and i have never managed to clear my plate. Only prob here is a bottle of beer costs almost as much as a main! so stick to freshly squeezed juices!
Also in Greenwich..a litle expensive, but good if you get there before 6pm for the £5.95 two course lunch...the 'High Chapparal, is quite possibly the most fun restaurant i have ever been to. amzingly good mexican food, with a cocktail and shooters list of over 200....hic1..but the best thing about it is the tables which are a very odd 'bunk' style system..where you can be on the ground, or climb up ladders and sit on tables hovering over peoples heads. brilliant for parties (but try not to drop anything once you've had a few cocktails..he he)
Blego centraal in covent garden has a 'beat the clock' special between 4pm and 8pm with a choice of around 8 dishes and either a beer, wine or soft drink, and the price is exactly the time you order..so go at 4.30pm and it will cost £4.30 - it has a really great belgian diner atmosphere, and my favourite from the specials menu is moules frites, lots of yummy mussels coooked in white wine and parsley. plus a choice of 300 beers..what more could you want!
a good webite is

i am not sure how good it is for the rest of the country, but in london it has proved infintley useful, with lots of diner reviews, sample menus, online booking etc, and they often have incredible offers if you book through them. they send out exclusive offers in a newsletter too..and often stuff like 30% off at john lewis...really great!Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
The Albany Cafe in Deptford (London SE8) has changed hands a little while back and now they serve fantastic international cuisine - lunchtime only, unfortunately, but why not treat yourselves if you go shopping at the Deptford Market on Wednesdays (BRILLIANT for second hand bargains!).
Yesterday I had a MASSIVE portion of Aubergine and Tomato bake, with lots of salad and as much fresh ciabatta bread as I could fit in the plate, for £4.25. Did not need dinner in the evening after that!
Check it online: http://www.thealbany.org.uk/pages/cafe.html
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Also Wagamama a Japanese chain of noodle bars all over the UK - to make it worthwhile though you need to subscribe to their website (it's free) then you can check periodically for their special offers, ranging from free beer or wine with your meal to 2 for 1 vouchers.
Check the site: http://www.wagamama.com and click on the 'Members' area'

I recommend @pt next to the UGC Cinema on Broad Street in birmingham for lunches. You get a main mean (fairly bland admittedly) but a bargain nevertheless. If you want to spend a little more, look around the back of the Mailbox, on the Riverside. There are about a dozen competing restaurants there ans so the prices are cheap - £6 including an orgainic beer in Santa Fe...0
