Desoite all the vitriol ...i'll ask again.Do you think that this is an acceptable arrangement when we are both 65 and the Son is 40....be honest please!!
More hypotheticals? Is what an acceptable arrangement? Acceptable to who? What is the relevance of the ages?
I haven't seen very much vitriol on here my lovely, just people getting exasperated by not being able to get the information they need to answer you properly.
I don't believe any of the people who thought Jackie owed you money were having a go at you, we were all genuinely confused by your posts. Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -
i think he knows he is in the wrong that is why he has asked us in teh thread title whether we think he is callous
i do
I don't think he thinks he's in the wrong, some people just have very fixed ideas on things and I think this is one of those situations. He is fixated on costs and really just can't see past his beliefs.
Takes all sorts to make a world.
And just for the record OP...I do think it would be ok if you were both 65 and son was 40 and the situation was still the same. In fact I think it would be very astute of Jackie, she's clearly a lady with a sensible head on her shoulders.Herman - MP for all!0 -
ooooh I hadn't noticed that FaceBook button before!
Martin, Jackie probably hasn't paid "board" since she was a teenager you know LOL.Inside this body lays one of a skinny woman
but I can usually shut her up with chocolate!
When I thank a post in a thread I've not posted in,
it means that I agree with that post and have nothing further to add.

Please give me 1 single honest good reason WHY Jackie would ever want or benefit from living with you.
If she splits bills with her son, it would make her rent £50 pwk ( a cheap price to pay for independance I'd say!)
She is free to come & go as she pleases, spend her low income however she chooses and the comfort in knowing that if her 'boyfriend' turns out to be a complete and utter !!!!!!, she can shut her own front door in his face.
You want to save £5K a year.....Charge Jackie for 1/2 your bills + extra costs no doubt, we woman like our wrinkle creams & body lotions, that surely must add up over a year so you should note these things when you tot up your grocery shopping. Of course she won't mind picking up after you, cooking and cleaning for you & the dynamics of your relationship wouldn't change at all...would they?
At least if she does complain, you can always throw her out on the street......where you already tossed her son!
EDIT
If you ever want to settle with a woman, listen to them and understand that their opinions, views and values, needs and happiness matter to them and are as valid and important to them as yours are to you!PROUD MEMBER OF

Sorry, There are a lot of posts here so I haven't read them all so I might be repeating something
After 5 years you must have discussed future plans. Has she always insisted on independance, if she has then fair enough. OR was there a expectation from the start that she would move in with you soon? If so, I think you have a reasonable expection that she should start considering it.
If she is in HA accomodation it could be that she is worried about losing her independence all together - HA properties are not easy to come by and if she gives it up, it is unlikely that she would get another should anything go wrong with your relationship. It may be worth a trial/transition period where she starts spending more time at your house but still keeps up her own house.
You are of course asking her to give up her independance (in your own words). It's a big thing to ask so have you done anything to show your commitment?
It might help to rephrase the way you're talking about it as well. "We should move in because it makes financial sense" doesn't sounds as good as "We should live together because I love you and want to spend the rest of my life with you"0
