I was stuck behind someone doing around 27mph in a 50mph limit for 8 miles as the stretch of road can be bad for overtaking, but, when you indicate to overtake the tw*t speeds up or moves over the lane as a reaction to your movements.
You really need to learn the stealth overtake.0 -

Bring out National Minimum Speed Limits on A roads and Motorways and a Maximum National Speed Limit within built up areas....
On A roads? !!
I don't know what minimum speed you would propose for an A road, but what about vehicles which have a low top speed such as tractors, mopeds etc?0 -
Cyclists- Honestly never had thought of them, really. Always would have given them room, never shouted, etc, but never really thought about them.
My sister met and married a professional cyclist, and since then it's amazed me the sheer amount of disrespect they're shown.
In January, we did a charity cycle- in memory of my 13 month old nephew who passed away Christmas last year- and I was at the front. Not cycling- I was on the back of a Honda Goldwing with my camera gear, taking photos for their website. The ride and route had been publicised for months with signs on the side of the road, and announcements in the paper.
Rider would give me a tap on the knee if I needed to hold on, as he was aware I wasn't looking forward, and was preoccupied.
We had police backing, and were escorted at points. Still, as we pulled onto roundabouts to stop traffic to allow the cyclists to pass (police helped us here), we got beeped at, people attempting to cut us up, trying to ride through a swarm of over 200 cyclists- why? They're mainly pro's, they'll be past in one minute. Why endanger their lives, for the sake of a minute?
We had people trying dangerous overtaking, a guy in a van trying to force a cyclist off the road, and general swearing and abuse. It didn't ruin our day- nobody was hurt.
The motorcycles got abuse as well, one hairy moment for my rider when a car decided he was just going to drive at us, and my rider just sat there- the police were beside us shouting at the man to stop.
I still can't believe some of the attitudes we encountered- nor the danger.0 -
Dual carriageway this morning, doing the national limit (70mph), I quickly come up behind a car and a moped... As I approach the car pulls out into my lane (not MY lane) doing around 40mph.... No problem, I simply brake and pull up behind said car with a 2 second gap (at 40mph), she then hits the washers, covers my car in washer fluid, pulls back across and makes an obscene gesture at me!!!! !!!!!!!!!!
Some people are just complete morons!!! the 2 second rule applies to the speed your doing, NOT the speed limit of the road!
She clearly tried to provoke someone who was otherwise in a calm and peaceful state!

That was particularly funny. What exactly was this person's "advice"?
He demonstated how I should move my arm up and down, which is the signal for, "I am slowing down or stopping".0 -
I was in Brighton when the London to Brighton cycle ride was on. It was the morning and the keen cyclists were starting to arrive in Brighton before the police were on hand to keep general order. There was a steady stream of cyclists.
Now, being the quickest cyclists to get from the London to Brighton, it is a fair assumption that these are regular cyclists. We were on foot. We keep getting told that it is the minority of cyclists who jump traffic lights, don't stop at zebra crossings etc. It was not possible, as a pedestrian, to cross the roads safely, even at traffic lights. All the cyclists without except were jumping the lights. The only way to cross was to wait for the green man, and then step out into the cyclists, forcing them to stop and getting a load of abuse my way.
So in my experience, when on mass, cyclists are as bad to pedestrians as motorists are to cyclists.0 -

When I am driving along a DC, with my 2 sec gap to car infront, if someone does come up my rear, I personally wash my screen. They soon back off. There is no room to go ahead of me so wait. Not saying this is what you did.
I also laugh, when indeed I do need to wash my screen, I count how many cars back the wash wave goes.
Best so far is 4 cars.I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.

Going back to the merging in turn thing (sorry!).
darich - you sound like someone who thinks about their driving a lot, so I suggest you experiment with following King along the outside lane and merging in whenever you get to the end. It's angry people on the inside lane that are part of the problem.
King quoted the Highway Code advocating use of the merging in turn system (that is one from the left lane proceeds into the one lane ahead, then one from the right lane, then left, then right). This is also known as the zipper system, which may help explain how it works.
This system is LAW in Germany. It means less stopping and starting, as when you get to the merge point, there's no wondering whether this guy will let me in, or whether this guy is going to try to squeeze in in front of me. Both lanes then move at the same speed, and when you arrive you just join the shortest one, which will be precisely 1 vehicle shorter than the other queue!
This is definitely a case of 'if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem'.
Come on darich, you're a better driver than that!0
