Hmmm..things that annoy me...
People assuming that it's ok to speed through roadworks. It's my place of work (currently the M25). Please stop putting my life and the lives of my friends and colleagues at risk. And yes we do work at night, weekends and bankholidays, so don't assume that we're not and that it's ok to speed at these times. Also, if the vehicle in front of you puts it's double flashing lights on the roof on and indicates left, chances are they are about to enter the roadworks, tailgating is not going to help you.
People who's exit from the roundabout isn't moving, so they decide that if they can't leave the roundabout they're going to block you from entering an otherwise clear roundabout to turn right.
People who make judgements on a car by it's appearance. I drive a 2CV, and yes I can and do do 60mph on the single carriageway, just don't expect my brakes to be as good as yours when you pull out in front of me and fail to speed up.
The drivers who spend ages trying to get past me on said single carriageway, because they assume that I MUST be going slowly, and once past they slow down to 55mph, or slam on their brakes to do 0mph for the speed camera in the 60mph limit.
People who assume that it's ok to speed on motorways, because after all, it's only a motorway, it can't be that dangerous. Tell that to the driver who killed himself, his girlfriend and my granny and closed the M1 for 6 hours.
Rude drivers. Everyone makes a mistake from time to time. I'm more likely to let you in if you look appologetic, lost, or thank me. But sticking 2 fingers up just makes me close the gap up.
Oh, and the driver who was following me just before Swindon and couldn't get past (no point anyway as the traffic was pretty heavy). I was in a huge white van. He then started getting aggressive. Tooting, flashing his lights, giving me the finger. He followed me as I went round a roundabout twice, waited for me in a layby when I let him get ahead, then pulled out behind me. Followed me down a windy lane, and eventually pulled off at Bicester. Bizzarrely he went from aggression to indicating that he wanted to buy me a drink. Weirdo. :rotfl:
Crumbs, that makes me look like one stressed out driver. I actually enjoy driving most of the time, and do a considerable amount for work (usually around the M25)0 -
Regarding letting people out of side roads, I won't stop to let someone out, but I will slow down and open up a suitable gap for someone waiting to pull out.
Some people are paying attention and will take this opportunity. Some are not paying attention and will stay there.
This way I am more likely to have a competent driver in front of me, which is always a good thing.0 -

Those people letting others out of side roads, you must be a very poor driver if you think you need to be psychic to predict they are going to slow down.If you are looking further ahead than the car in front then you would account for this in your thought process and anticipate that they may let them out.Failing that there's always the big red lights that illuminate when someone uses their brakes.
Setting off is not bullying.Think about it, you are the obstruction and by setting off are removing the obstruction.I often wonder if these people who prevent you moving off would do the same if you were both walking down the street.Of course they wouldn't.
One thing i am is observant hense I look at the road ahead and know what is happening before most people do.
I am more curtious than the average driver believe me , but again forcing your way out of a space just because you want to go is not going to make me want to buy you tea. Set off at a time when there is no cars simples.
Regarding the letting people pull out of side roads , slowing down to let them out fine , when its a safe distance to do so , not deciding at the last minute that you are going to do hense causing numerous drivers to slam their breaks on because of your decision. Then a few miles down the road the traffic backs up and we are all late again because of your decision. I am certainly not a poor driver and seem to be more aware of the highwaycode. I simply stated I have to be psycic generally because they make a final decision 2 seconds before they get to the junction a person is waiting at.
The big red lights on the back of the car. Oh they are a good indication that people slow down or break. If they work and are not tinted so I cant see them.
There are many flaws in your arguement dear . The presumption that I am not a good driver is a slight insult. But ill take it as it comes , whilst you fiddle with your nose in your little cage of protection thinking no one can see you , as I filter past you on my bikeONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0 -

That's pretty much how I do it Lum.You don't have to stop for people to be abl to com out.You just need to look well ahead and make it obvious you are leaving a gap for them and then you don't even need to touch the brake pedal.0 -

It seems we may have misinterpeted what the other was saying slightly.I can see how as a biker what other road users do has a bigger impact on your journey.
You'd be picking your nose too if you didn't have a lid on.

Something seriously needs to be done about educating people about closure of lanes and merge in turn, two instances yesterday of one lane closing on two dual carriageways I use, so two lanes have to merge into one. The obvious happens, people see the lane closure 800 yards away sign, and jump into left hand lane and sit there, a couple of minutes later and the traffic is backed up to and beyond that 800 yard sign. Enter me; right hand lane, drive 800 yards past everyone, then merge with the traffic at the front, simple!
How hard is it to understand use both lanes and merge in turn at the end, how hard can it be?!
Of course your get the obligitary buttplugs, who think it's a queue at the post office, and that anyone who drives past you in the other lane is mearly pushing in so he can get he's 1st class stamps first, so it's their civic duty to act like a pleb, or perform dangerous driving manouvers to stop you trying to merge safely.0 -
^^ Agreed. As post #49. If the empty lane is not to be used it would be coned off.0

aka queuejumpers.....the cause of much road rage and annoyance.
Driving to the start of the lane closure and forcing your way in shows a lack of observation, planning and is a danger to yourself, other drivers and workers within the lane closure.
The "empty lane" is empty because most drivers have planned ahead and moving along into the narrower section. The majority of hold ups are caused by poor drivers using the lane which is closed ahead and causing other, more considerate, drivers to slow down.
You probably won't even have noticed how the "buttplugs" as you call them cause the traffic ahead of them to speed up because there are no clowns forcing their way in. This means no braking in the main queue for all the observant and considerate drivers.....and the speed increases due to that forward planning. Once the "buttplug" enters the closure, the drivers behind are once again subjected to increased delays and emergency stops due to impatient idiots who think they know better.
The lane ahead is closed for a reason........and you're often given miles of notice. Leaving it to the last 100yards is shocking driving, however you want to dress it up and excuse it. Perhaps you should read the highway code in particular the section titled "Think". It specifically states to get into the right lane....not "drive to the start of the closure and join in the last 100yards"
Eventually you'll come up against someone like me on the road - I'll refuse to let you in, and you'll lose your no claims bonus because of it. I'll also have a line of witnesses equally annoyed at your lack of consideration. I've done it before even though I have a nicer car than most.....I'd do it again. Worryingly though, that drivers hasn't learned and still queuejumps....maybe it's a trait of queuejumpers - an inability to learn from mistakes.

I'm sorry but you have no idea how wrong you are.
Queuejumping? That's the mentality which is wrong, 2 lanes merging into 1 with signs saying use both lanes, means you use both lanes and merge in turn at the coned area, not everyone pile into the lane that is open 1000 yards down the road, and render the lane that is currently still open, useless.
In short, there's no such thing as queuejumping, on a merge in turn at roadworks, i.e. you use both lanes and merge in turn.0
