Train fares. They're monstrously expensive compared with other countries, and to my mind, because it's greener, it ought to always be cheaper to go by train than car so it makes me doubly annoyed when it isn't. And trains are so crowded! You can pay £100 for a ticket and still have to sit in the aisle.

If you go to the above official UK link, you'll find definitive proof for when you do and DO NOT need a TV Licence.

Many here seem to be a little confused about what you need to do in this regard.
If you do not need a licence at home but have the equipment.... you must let them know.

    Hope that helps.

There is absolutely no requirement to let the TV Licencing people (Capita and therefore sales people) know anything at all.

You don't have to opt out of a TV licence.
You don't have to let them into your house at any time.
You don't have to respond to their letters which are considered bullying in the extreme.

Another vote for VAT on tampons. The mooncup is fantastic but many still like to wear panty-liners for peace of mind. Plus although it's a one of cost for the mooncup - thats still got 5% VAT on it!

Another thing that I hate is prescription charges for my asthma medication. I don't understand why other chronic illness prescriptions are free yet my 3 asthma meds cost me over £21 every couple of months.

I take about eleven repeat meds and usually another three to four meds on top of that each month so I pay a prepay prescription. I'm in Scotland so it costs £10 every quarter but it works out so much cheaper than paying for each one individually

  • Paying for parking is something that goes against every grain of my body. I don't mind a bit of a walk to park somewhere free, but I won't drive around in circles waiting for a space (kind of defeats the point).

But worse than that, is being forced to pay for parking. Especially attractions, certain theme parks naming no names, where you are already paying a lot of money in admittance, who charge an additional parking fee on top. Sick!

I don't mind paying for public transport - it's just too expensive! But that's another topic...
  • Bank charges - here in Poland we are charged for making online bank transfers plus all the other carp.
Ink cartridges - 20 each one and 2 needed... what's that all about!!
TV licence - when I was in UK
    P&P - for anything, I just don't like it.
    'Admin' charges
All the 'hidden' charges with budget airlines... pay extra to check in at the airport... so we don't but then need to check in our case so they recheck us in and give us an 2nd boarding pass !?!?!
    Public transport
New mobile phones - so try not to.

Probably other stuff but I can't remember just now.

I really resent spending money on:

    * The Humber Bridge (£2.60 EACH way to service a debt that will never be paid off)
    * Booking fees on tickets - a total rip-off, a cartel, a scam!
    * Wholemeal bread - why does it cost so much more than white?
    * Petrol - no comment needed for this one.

Just for starters. I could write a book. I think I just hate spending money. :D

Oh and as for VAT, here's a little opinion piece to entertain.
    Barclaycard 0% - [STRIKE]£1688.37 [/STRIKE] Paid off 10.06.12
  • Motorway service stations...total rip off 2 small slices of pizza and cofee £7.50....Also theater icecream sellers MEGA rip off 2 tiny tubs of icecream and small bottle coke £8.50 :mad::mad::mad::mad:!!!
  • My pet hate for spending is those horrible expensive phone numbers like 0845,07,0833 etc. Yes I do know about the fantastic website saynoto0870.com but there are a few numbers that they do not cover. When I have to use these expensive numbers I am continually looking at my phone display & mentally calculating what it is costing me & I am still holding on listening to tape recorded messages, music & the inevitable "Your call is important to us". Even my doctor's surgery has an 0833 number for booking appointments.Shocking!
  • I hate spending my hard earned cash replacing domestic appliances. The hoover or iron seem to conk out when I can least afford it.

Council tax - what a rip off - I live in the country - the only service really is the bin collection
Parking my car - hell I only want to stop - now if it came with a service like being cleaned at the same time maybe I wouldn't complain - but I'll walk miles rather than pay
Repairs to my car that make no discernable difference - eg the steering boot replacement - wow my car's so much better now - not.
