But if you DO tell them, at least it stops them ever knocking on your door in the first place!! Why invite possible trouble!

No, it doesn't at all. They will come back 'periodically' to check that you're still not watching live TV. It's outrageous that the government allows a sales company to bully people and takes the default stance of those without a licence being liars.

BTW- I have a valid licence and watch TV.

I grudge paying the water rates: I could not understand why Welsh water rates cost so much more than the London water rates when we moved back!
Tinfoil, greaseproof paper etc - I re-use what I can & try to make the rolls last, but still have to give in sooner or later.

Edit: Another vote for 'lady products' & boo to the VAT slapped on top!

I asked a similar question to Anglian Water when I moved into their area. Turns out they have to cover such a lot of rural areas, using so many extra pipes, it's more expensive for them to provide us with the service. Something about leaks being harder to find and then repair, too.

I didn't say I believe it, or that I think that's a reasonable explanation - it's just what I was told when I queried my bill having increased signficantly after I moved into a new area.

Another vote for "feminine hygiene" products. The VAT on them makes me feel very angry. For a while, ASDA had a campaign where they sold them VAT-free. Anyone know if that's continued anywhere?
Keep on doing what you're doing, and you'll keep on getting what you've got. :A

Anglian Water are very expensive, but I figure that places like London benefit so much from the huge customer base. Generally, the more you make of anything the cheaper it becomes per item/unit. Another example of this is the public transport there.

However, despite hideously expensive buses and costly water, houses in Norfolk are cheap to buy and rent in most areas.

A space in my work places cycle shed!

Why do you have to pay for that? How is it costing them money to have that there?

Water rates and petrol. Also meat because I can live without it but the male members of my family apparently can't!

I resent having to pay to park at the hospital. We had to go quite frequently when I was pregnant and at £3 a time it soon adds up! It's not even as if I could have walked there instead :-(.
I am in no way condoning carpark charges at hospitals especially for cancer patients and those unable to move easily but forgive me for saying this but did your legs stop working as all the pregnant women I have ever known seem to be able to walk as normal. Perhaps you had some medical condition I am unaware of - admittedly I do not know you personally. Pregnancy is a condition or state not really a serious illness.

For those saying sanitary products, can you not go on the pill and not take breaks? After a while you dont get breakthrough bleeds on your week off anyway... ( you dont actually have periods while on the pill)

Not all of us can go on the pill.

I hate paying out for ladies products and loo roll. And petrol and car repairs.

Tax and insurance are the ones for me, the ones where I don't really seem to see a benefit, and they're always so much more than what I feel is reasonable.
