You must be in a minority of one then! Everyone whinges about tax increases, but everyone wants more services available. I remember seeing an online forum where people were OUTRAGED that SureStart services were being axed. When I pointed out that to keep them, they would have to pay more tax to fund it, they were... you've guessed it... OUTRAGED.

I'm living in Denmark at the moment - tax bill (all in, including council tax, which is paid pre-tax) is 59% of gross.
But you know what? You get great services. Good healthcare, excellent dentistry (as I can personally attest), clean streets, high minimum wage (around £11 per hour), amazing education system etc.
If you want that kind of service, are you prepared to only take home 40% of your salary to achieve it?
(I am, but I wonder if others will agree).

But if you count all the taxes that we pay it is around 65% of gross and the minimum wage is a laugh
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Anything I don't have a choice about - council tax, road tax etc etc. Got around TV licence by not having a TV and just using catch up services online for anything I want to watch.

You must pay for tv licence if you have any equipment through which you can receive tv shows
  • My big big big pet hate is paying for parking at hospitals and doctors even when you're just picking someone up and literally dumping the car for 5 minutes to fetch them and then taking the car to the drop off bit so they don't have to walk very far...

Any equipment through which you can receive live tv shows. Catchup services don't require a license.

No, you only need one if you watch or record live TV. Just having the equipment is irrelevant.

When my two were in primary school, they used to have this book day thing, were the kids could take in money and buy books, great idea and great to get kids interested in reading but, the prices of these books were just way hiked up. One year my daughter came out with a small book of plain paper, it had the pic of a dog on the front and it cost £6:eek:

I also don't like to spend money on new clothes from the big named stores, I buy my stuff on Ebay:D

I was in a well known store today which rhymes with text, I never go into these shops usually but, was looking for something specific as a gift for my daughters. Anyway, they had some plastic jars filled with popcorn, and a layer of maltesers in the middle, it was £8:eek: Why pay that when you can make it yourself fraction of the cost. Guess I am trying to say I don't like paying for stuff for the "lable"
