Council tax! we dont get value for money whatsoever. and Water rates.

Well actually thats another of my pet bugbears - having to pay extra Council Tax because I'm single (ie 75% of what a couple or family would pay). Other bills work out proportionately more as well because I'm single:mad:
  • I think from what I've read that we can conclude that this country is a rip off with everything. ( Apologies to Primark and Poundland ).
  • I resent the water bills here in Essex! I used to live in a flat in Chelsea with three of us and water bills (for both water & sewerage) were HALF what DH and I pay for the two of us living in a flat in Essex, I was sure when I first heard the cost that we were somehow paying twice!
  • Definitely hospital parking - I wouldn't mind so much if it benefited the hospital but not a private company
postage and packing - I hate this and will search out companies offering free postage bc others charge such an inflated price. I especially hate it when we are charged a surcharge for living off mainland uk when it doesn't cost any extra to post.
As for a mooncup I'm sure it's great! I heard fantastic stories so went out and bought one - got pregnant and never used it !!! ( after baby I had a coil and no periods since!)
finally I don't begrudge paying prescription charges - not after living in america and bring given a prescription , got tk chemist to find it was $2000 !!!!! For 4 tablets!!!! Now i nevermoan about prescriptions!!
  • Well Im glad im not the only one to resent council/income tax and the TV license! I own a tv, however I only use it to watch DVDS, the aerial isn't even plugged in. Yet I still have to pay for it? Not fair at all!

Also agree with the dentist - when I moved I could only get into a private practise, prob only go around once a year to avoid charges. Anyway I had an infection maybe a month ago, had to go in and BEG for an appointment (literally couldnt open my mouth more than half an inch), my dentist looks in my mouth for maybe 10 seconds, hands me a prescription and charges me £6! If it was even a check up, fair enough, but £6 to tell me it was infected? I knew that!

Work clothes - my work has just decided I now have to wear black trousers and top (before it was jeans and tshirt), but of course they weren't gonna pay for new clothes for me, and I cant just go into a shop and buy black combats because most shops havent recognised that some ladies need trousers with a 36" inside leg...aah! (had to buy mens trousers in the end - now look like a total scruff at work!) They actually think I should be wearing black shoes/trainers too, but I refuse to go that far.

And yes, lady products :) Altho I only really buy the supermarket value ones so doesnt set me back too much.

Oh and my mum always has the 'good' loo roll at her house - eh why?:rotfl:
  • council tax :( i sort my own rubbish and never use the other services and that costs me £106 a month thats my xmas money!!
  • Hospital parking charges should be made illegal. I live equidistant from Dumfries(free parking) and Carlisle(charges) and have visited friends in both hospitals over the years. Surely if 1 hospital doesn't charge, they all could.
Petrol is another rip-off. When I learned to drive 30 years ago I used to buy cars at £70, now it's nearly that to fill them!
Then there's over-priced birthday cards in the local shops and let's face it they get thrown away without a second glance by most folk so I get them from the Card Factory when I remember, and they are always cheap; good and a great selection.
One of my bug-bears is bag-packers at the checkouts in supermarkets. I know it sounds mean but it's the principle. I do give to lots of charities and sometimes I have 4 or 5 pounds worth of groceries and feel duty bound to add another £1 to the bucket for some obscure "friends of some school or other."
Well I feel better getting all that off my chest.
  • The first thing that comes to mind is parking...and any kind of automatic machine (ie parking, vending) that does not give change. Also any bills and taxes...
    April £10 a day challenge £321.85/£300 May £10 a day challenge £136.93/£310 July £20 a day challenge £530.57/£620
  • And they never pack your bags the way you like to do it, either...

I hate paying the admin fees for my 'professional registration'

£360 for you to administer an electronic portfolio that was free last year?! Why?!?!

Had a bit of a think about this and have a few extras I want to add.

I begrudge paying VAT when I have already paid tax on my wages, savings and pension
Hospital Parking when Scotland, Ireland and Wales it is free , the same goes for the high cost of prescriptions, optical care and dentists.

Overpriced car insurance - because it is a legal requirement the insurance companies seem to think that they can charge over the odds.

Extortionate Call out Charges for tradesmen

I also begrudge paying high gas, electric and water rates just for shareholders profits also I think it is wrong that we have to pay VAT on these items as well and don't get me going on BT prices

Postage costs are OTT as is the cost of public transport

Don't buy printer ink buy a new printer it is cheaper.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
