Great 'What do you hate spending money on the most?' Hunt

  • I really hate being charged huge amounts for wine in restaurants. We no longer eat out a great deal and when we do we still like to feel we have value for money. The charges for wine are ridiculous and Frankie & Benny's is one of the worst offenders. I can buy a bottle of my favourite wine with what they charge for a large glass there, and still have some change! The meals are usually reasonably priced, the service has always been good at our local F&B's and our grandsons really enjoy eating there. But the price of a glass of wine really spoils it for me.

Definitely dentist fees! They are so expensive! If glasses can reduce in price, surely dentists can as well?

  • Rent. I used to own my own home when I was married but left my ex in it and moved into rented accommodation. What a mistake that was!! Although paying off my home was more expensive at least I knew my money was going towards paying off something that (well, I thought) I actually owned. With rent, although I do at least have a roof over my head, I'm paying money that I'll never see again for something I'm only having the immediate benefit of rather than long-term.

For those girls who have said they hate paying for 'lady-products', have any of you thought of getting a Mooncup? As I'm a newbie I can't post links but just Google either Mooncup or Femmecup. :) It's saved me SO much money!!

    All the best

have the contraceptive injection! the government pay, and no periods!

See, when I was a poor student as opposed to a poor working person, I got the implant in order to side step paying £3.50 twice a month when my little friend appeared. (yeah, long story) It made it worse. Might give that moon cup a try.

Things I hate paying for: Council Tax, Water rates, Sanitary products, VAT (not looking forward to January) Bus Fare (having moved from London to Bristol to save money, I'm appalled by having to pay £7 to visit my mum, it was cheaper than that to use National express!) postage and packing.

Things I'm glad I dont have to pay for: eye tests, prescription charges, (the only time I'm glad my pancreas doesn't work.)
  • FOOD, Council tax, water rates, Electric, Gas, TV licence and anything where I have no option.

Council Tax (shocking value for money)
Tax on the interest earned on savings (completely fails to allow for inflation)
    TV license
  • Supermarkets which continually increase prices by 33% each year - and claim its the high £ against the euro, or the low £, or increased demand from China or any other lie they can get away with: BT which increases its prices as and when it feel fit: Council tax, which is a totally unfair and wasteful tax: Car insurance companies who claim that they have to increase prices because they don't make a profit (if so why so many car insurance companies?) - shall I go on?
