Pop into your local gay bar, most have a free condoms near the bar or with their magazines

Doctors give away free condoms and family planning clinics. Which is why it makes me angry about having to pay for tampons!

Sanitary products, especially the VAT. I've often wondered - if they're such a luxury, does this mean that people would be quite happy if I were to do without? I doubt it...

Council tax - my block of six flats has one wheelie bin which is emptied once a fortnight. I pay for doorstep recycling services, but am not allowed to use them. I pay towards public transport subsidies and it's still almost as cheap to drive. I pay towards police/PCSOs but they won't help when I'm attacked... not getting value for money in any way from that and there's no way to demand it, because you just get the line that whether or not you use - or *can* use - a particular service is 'irrelevant', as you're legally obliged to pay.

Public transport, especially buses. I used to walk everywhere because the prices were frightening, the service was rubbish to non-existent and it was extremely dangerous. Now I'm disabled and consider it a good day if I can get as far as the bus stop. And there's always fat, lazy mums with tank-like prams taking up *all* the priority seating space and about 90% of the aisle. After getting punched in the face for (politely) asking one to move and then being thrown off the bus, I just give up, stand up and cause myself more agony these days.

Hospital parking charges - our local one has no public transport links - the nearest bus stop is a ten minute walk away. So what else am I supposed to do?

Bank charges - there's no need. It does *not* cost them £10 if I accidentally go 3p overdrawn for a few hours. That's greed and punishment, not 'administration costs'.

Jobcentres. Ask three people the same questions, and 90%+ of the time you'll get three different answers, none of which will actually be correct. And they have truly epic tantrums when you ask for a receipt for some vital piece of time-dependant paperwork... Waste of time and money.

Oh, and every place and everything that is not accessible to disabled people. Most of the time it's not difficult, you're legally required to do it if you can, and it doesn't take much effort, but allows you to have more customers!

It's absolutely stupid, really. I have a legal obligation to pay council tax. If I don't do it, I go to court and eventually to jail.

Every place that is open to the public has a legal obligation to be accessible to disabled people. They don't do it. Er... nothing happens. At all.
  • 1 - Income Tax
    2 - National Insurance
    3 - Council Tax
4 - Car Insurance (I've never had to claim!)
    5 - Petrol - eek!
6 - Dentist (pay for pain?! Although a neccessary evil!)

    That's it - rant over!
Start every day by telling yourself how beautiful and intelligent you are
  • I hate paying for sanitary products. But at least it's 5%, not 20%. (Unwillingly) I see it from the Chancellor's point of view - since the UK has the largest number of zero rated items for VAT, any time we ask for Another VAT Zero rate, Europe says fine, what moves to Standard Rate then - and TBH I'd rather cope with 5% on sanitary things than 20% on fast-growing kids shoes! Or food, books, newspapers and magazines, even houses! (There are other taxes on that of course,, but there *could* always be VAT!) So while I hate paying VAT on sanitary products, I just think of trying to pay VAT on the lads shoes...
I will not start on car parking at hospitals....
  • When eating out, having had a good value main course for £x, how can anyone justify a pudding costing about 75% of £x?
  • Expensive phone calls to companies that insist on using 0844 or 0871 numbers to make a booking. Wherever possible I avoid using these firms and go elsewhere but it is not always possible. If they want my business why not use a 'normal' number (usually free), or better still an 0800 number which is always free.
  • TV Licence - almost 3 weeks' income!

Buying more than I need in supermarkets to get the lower price eg buy 2 x 5kg potatoes for £1.50, or 1 bag for £1.

It's bad enough living alone, coping with daily problems without being penalised for not being part of couple/family to get discounts.
  • I hate having to pay for dental treatment when I pay taxes and NI but there are no NHS dentists in the area!
