Hi Georgie,
I've just read through your diary and thought I'd say a quick "hello"
Don't worry about not getting started with the OPs yet - you've got good intentions and are still settling into the house. Mine are pitiful so far this year, so you're not alone in making a slow start!
I'm also a big fan of your rules

I wish, I had the terrible twos, three's, and now fours! Hes nearly five, has been going to school since september and he has moments of sweetness, but the problem is his temper when he gets in a mood it can last for days and he just lashes out constantly. I will figure it out... hopefully before he's 6 ft tall and could throw me over his shoulder!Mortgage at 08/10/10: 110k:eek:

I've just found your diary (thanks for bumping it, cococoladebt) and I love it. You have such a vivid way of writing, and such a great attitude. Also, I've recently bought a house by myself and am a lone parent of two, so I can really relate so some of the stuff you are going through.
Even if you're not managing to make any OPs, please do keep posting on here. The things you need to do to get ready for making OPs (like sorting out your double charge from BG, or getting your heating fixed) are all just as much part of the journey towards having a lovely house that you own yourself.
I'd like to encourage you to let go of the "MF by 40" idea, because when you calculate how much you need to OP this month and can't do it, it's just discouraging. For now, why not settle on a smaller, more manageable target: "see how quickly I can clear the other stuff out of the way and start making OPs" or something like that. And do update your sig. Even if you haven't made any OPs at all, your basic payments on a 35 year term repayment mortgage will have brought the capital down a little bit. Type the little decrease into your sig, celebrate it, and let it motivate you to keep plugging away!
If you do come back to MFW, I for one will follow your diary with interest!

Hi Coco and Lois
I am here, well most of the time in DFW, so thanks for the kick up the jacksee to make me update...

Yep nothing but tumble weed...
The actual update goes:
OPs: nowt:mad:
Walls decorated: nada:mad:
Bills paid: a rather large number to the power of another rather large number!!!
On the plus side after 6 months of trying to get a water meter fitted I finally did last week!!!
I still need to get my council tax sorted, shhh don't tell anyone but I thought they would write to me and give me a swift kick, I've now realised that if I wait then I'm going to be up s!#t creek!!!
Life has a horrible habit of getting in the way at the moment, my grandfather made himself bankrupt, this was, well, farcical at points, but one of the reasons I brought the house I did was so I could be near to him, so there were some evenings calming him down. The man has always been a worrier, I do remember him telling me that at one point in his life he started to worry because he didn't think he was worrying enough!!!!:rotfl:
There are also issues with my mother but I'll go into those some other time...
Thanks for the swift one I will try to keep this up to date more often!!

I wrote my update then re-read your post, thanks for motivating me. I chose the 40 deadline to push me, 12 years to pay off 100,000 and bring up two kids. Do I think its do-able, not really, but I'm the type of person that needs something to push me, if I try for 40 and make it but 45 or even 50ish then I'm not going to beat myself up.
If I set my self a more do-able target then I won't push myself, I won't try to reach for the stars and will end up at the end annoyed with myself for not trying my best. I know its a perverse way of dealing with the world but I would rather fail and have done my best than to live up to an easy target knowing I could have tried more!!
I have a massive spreadsheet that calculates all the stats I could possible measure on my mortgage, it also includes pretty graphs. I didn't set it up so that I have to hit it at 40, the summary page just works out my age to be mortgage free at the current postion.
I have a smaller target at the moment, get myself to 80% LTV before I need to remortgage in 18 months, which is easily achieved, depending on what it looks like in a year I might try to push to 75%!
Now I've managed to not explain anything I really need to get back to some work!

I can understand that. Of course you should set whatever kind of target you find most motivating. I'm a bit of an "all or nothing" sort of person, and I don't do well with targets I can't meet. For me, it's better to have an easy target and challenge myself to see how much I can beat it by. So you and I are different in that respect, but very similar in other areas: I too have a massive spreadsheet that tracks everything possible to do with all areas of my finances and has lots of graphs too.
Congratulations on the water meter and the May NSD, and good luck with the council tax. I hope the bill isn't too huge when you finally get it. I need to address my water bill by organising getting a decent shower fitted. The one that's here is so pathetic that most of the time I have baths instead. I'm definitely intending to get a better shower, so the sooner I get it, the sooner the water usage can start going down.Starting again 13/4/19Home loan 1: £21,102.50 Home loan 2: £7,698.99Total owed: £28,801.49

oh oh oh... my shower is pathetic, and I need to be a midget to wash my hair... so yeah I'm with you on the shower!Mortgage at 08/10/10: 110k:eek:

Geez, I leave this for a day and it drops down to the third page, wow there are a lot of MFWs now!!!
I still haven't gotten round to sorting out my council tax... for haven't gotten round to read: can't be ars*d to go in my lunchtime. I realised that this basically makes me guilty of tax evasion... I'm a grown up, I'm an upstanding member of society, I haven't done anything wrong ever (well there was that time in uni - but it was never proved;))
I need to go to the council offices and own up, fill out whatever form there is and pay double for the next 6 months, yuech! I should be able to pay this as this will be the first month I'm not paying my mums mortgage...
Which brings me on to my real rant for the night... my mother!!! Before I start this I should point out that she is a great person, put me and my boys up for much longer than she should have, but I paid my way!!! Really I did, I got her an additional card on my CC, she ended running up 7k of debt with nothing to show for it...
My parents have always been terrible with money, I have no idea how much they have owed in their lives but I got a glimpse when they divorced. I remember as a kid we were always the poor kids, I didn't realise how much my father earned until I was with a friend of mine, we got cornered by a market reasearcher, she answered the household income question and I realised that my parents, well my father, earned much more than hers but she had holidays, new shoes when she need them and the rest. That was the first time I realised just how badly my parents managed their money.
This is all background because the real issue at the moment is my mother's finances, she is starting to run out of credit... according to her she only every buys what is nessesary, doesn't buy anything thats not needed!!!! I've just had to talk her out of a holiday, with the excuse I don't have the time or money... my sister has talked her out of buying new furniture for the living room, the reason she wants this is because she doesn't like the stuff she bought only 2 years ago
I have spent months reminding her that her interest only mortgage runs out next year and the bank are going to want their money... I know there is no way to get someone to a LBM, but if you can see trouble coming you so want to, and its frustrating as h$ll!!!
Thanks for reading this far, on a lighter note... my kids are now loving my place, they get a lot more freedom... I cannot tell you how great it is to see the kids go out to play in the morning then come back only when they are hungry... I can get so much done without them under my feet!! I picked the right house in the end, only took two years to find and I should be happy here for many years...
