  • OK seeing as nearly no one asked I'll tell you all my rules for life, I try to live by them but they do evolve, I'm still only young after all.

rule number 1: the golden rule...treat others as you would wish to be treated, pretty much a catch all but it does hold if you want to be able to look at yourself in the mirror!

rule number 2: don't get jealous, if you should then he's not worth it, if there is nothing to fret over you're just gonna push him away... ok not the easist of rules to follow...

rule number 3: the ick rules... there should be no one alive that can
compare me and any close relative 'in that way' (if you know what I
mean!). There is a new clause that includes friends, some nastiness in uni with a friends ex...:o

rule number 4: something always comes along in the end. This isn't an excuse not to do anything, it goes back to karma. It might not be what your looking for but it will work out in the end...:p

rule number 5: !!!!!! happens...you can plan as much as you like, but
life/the world etc will always throw a spanner in the works, so far I've found it's just best to roll with it...

rule number 6: never write anything on the tinternets that you wouldn't want your mum/OH/employer* (delete as applicable) to read:(

rule number 7: general rule of debt... don't run up a debt that will
take more that three payments to clear, one now, then the next two pay cheques, if you want it that badly then you can eat beans for two months:rotfl:

rule number 8: mean what you say and say what you mean, I've found this really works with kids, don't make empty threats, think before you make a threat, I would never threaten my kids with no dinner, but pudding on the other hand...;)

rule number 9: promises, keep them! An old saying but an honourable one, your word is your bond, always deliver on promises, never make empty ones, they will always come back to haunt you!:)

rule number 10: don't talk trash about other people's
mothers/fathers/brothers/sisters, you can talk trash about your own but it just looks cheap!

rule number 11: prepare yourself for the worst case... what's the worst that can happen? If you know that then if it doesn't happen, yay, if it does you already have a plan..._pale_

rule number 12: special rule of debt... don't panic, take a deep
breath, so rule number 5 just happened and rule number 7 has been
broken! Have a drink and work out how you are going to pay it off as cheaply as possible...

This house is basically rule 4 and 5 combined, I had been looking for
several years for a house and nothing really, always got beaten to it
by developers or the property was right at the begining of my search I couldn't get a mortgage as I had just changed jobs! On the wednesday I had decided to change jobs again, take the gamble again and not look for 6 months. On the thursday I got a phone call from an estate agent that I hadn't heard from in months with this house...

I like your rules! They seem like a nice set to follow to ensure you live a good life.

Hope there are no hiccups with your house purchase - it is the best feeling in the world picking up the keys to your new home!

    Hi Georgie!

another FTB here, we've been in our house a month today and like you we plan on battering down the mortgage from the get-go. Ours is a bit higher than yours at just a shade under £132k.

hope your completion and exchange goes through smoothly. looking forward to hearing about your journey

Well I transfered 17k to my solicitor. Then was ordered home from work, I think it was so I didn't infect everyone else!

Even on my deathbed *swoon* I still managed to exchange contracts so completion is set for Friday, a week early!

I've also been on to the utilities this afternoon, I was in bed until lunchtime so still justified in taking today off! I've signed up for the home help version so should get any issues sorted as long as the boiler does not blow up on saturday!

Well... err... I think this makes me a grown up!

Good luck for Friday and hope you feel better soon!
  • Well I completed Friday, yay me! I have owned a home for 2 and a half days and it has already cost me 45 squids in interest alone, and I haven't even slept there yet! I think I might actually be having a panic attack!!!!!

Today, while cleaning, I flooded the kitchen, no stop on one of the pipes from the sink, I can't turn the turny thing to get water running into the house, the only water I've got is in kitchen cold tap and a lightbulb fell on my head!

Somebody needs to tell me this gets better, or at least tell me that it could be worse! I need to get a plumber/gasman blokey out to sort out my boiler and water situation, I can't even flush a loo, I have to chuck a bucket of water down it!

First day nightmare, I got burgled! It really does get better- I hope you it it all sorted out and have a better day.
  • Well its been a few weeks... let me just give you the moans about the house...

Still haven't got the boiler sorted...
Have not got cold running water... but tried to have a shower this morning and the emersion sparks!
Still haven't finished the locks on the front door, barging would open the door!

I do like the house, I know I will love it, I know the kids will love it once the issues are ironed out. At the moment they keep asking if they can go back home to Nanna's to radiators and sky, I keep having to tell them that this is home!

Haven't even looked at overpaying yet, I know have a credit card that needs clearing again and an emergency fund that needs filling up first but I will overpay, even going mad in the catalogue shop I still have £140 to go towards my CC.

    Thanks for reading

I forgot to thank you for this, it did make me smile, how did they manage it, the day I moved in there were so many people around I couldn't name them all... oh that makes sense now...

I have been poor in my updates as there isn't really much to update, I haven't managed to overpay at all and I've owned the house a month today! <Everytime I think 'don't work out the interest' it pops into my head, oh the joys of being a mathematician!>

    /rant

I'm sure I have very unrealistic goals for some things but I did think, well, just get in, get a few bits and I'm away, it turns out under this brash exterior there beats the heart of a meek and mild girly girl. I need a decent shower, it doesn't have to be all singing, all dancing, just enough water coming out to actually get me wet! I would also like it hot but I'll aim for the possible at the moment!

My kids are just as soft as me, they might well want to play outside in all weathers, not be able to look presentable for more than 3 mins in the morning and generally be mud magnets (stick my boys on the case of clearing up oil in the sea and they could find it and soak it up in their clothing, I did offer their services to BP, told them it would cost them the price of a new school shirt and trews, but they never got back to me!)

All I've heard from DS1 & 2 since we moved in is
DS1: 'Mummm-eee, when are we going home?'
    Me: 'Sweetie, we are home'
DS1: 'No really, stop joking now, when are we going home?'
    Me: 'No really, not joking'
DS2: 'I wanna go home, I want Ben 10! I want comfy seats! I want to go home mummy!'
DS1: 'When are we getting sofas, can I pause the TV so I can go upstairs and get my duvet? I'm cold!'

2 weeks of this, constantly, they aren't stupid, they understand whats going on, they want me v mad so that I lose my rag and let them sleep over at Nans! Can't blame them really, I need to go over there and have a shower! I'll cave in as soon as they stop going on about it, I can't let them think they've won!

    /rant

OK rant over for now at least!

On a brighter note my CC should be paid off before crimbo, I stuck a whole load of fees and other things on it before I'd paid my money over to the solicitor, I wanted to make sure I had enough money to cover the deposit and whatnot. I also brought my dining table, too good an opportunity to miss, and my sofas on it, they turn up on Friday, yay!

I still have my eye on a 5 figure mortgage in 2 years time but I think the first 3 months will just have to be overpayment free!

That's it Georgie, keep going and you'll break their spirit eventually :rotfl:. Bless, they'll appreciate it even more when it's all done.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
