Well i have followed all the instructions on the wizard, but do not know what to put in for incoming mail pop and outgoing mail smtp

I presume I put in my e mail address in incoming , but do not know what to put in for smtp, tried to follow what it says in the link above, but it said not recognised, so I went on to support at Newnet, they also do not recognise my e mail address and password, maybe they have not got round to it yet as we all went on so quickly, I have not received an e mail from them yet. I have received a cd though, which I do not need at present, and e mails but no smtp bit. Am I being thick again??

e mails coming in, but still cannot do an outgoing one, I use outlook express.

Held on for too long just now to their support line, will try again tomorrow unless guess who or somebody on here knows what the smtp is??

Hey ho, patience, patience. Cheers oap

Great news oap, i'm pleased to see that you're back online.

I hoped for an early activation but can't count on it of course

Did you go into the members area and add a new email address to the account?

In Outlook Express you need to change the pop3 setting and smtp settings to

    pop3 and smtp:-

    mail.username.mail1.co.uk

no, don't put in the full email address, just the shortened version of the username in the above format

Thanks. Unfortunately my ADSL actually seems to have been ceased (Line and ADSL green lights no longer come on on Belkin router) but at least one of the line testers shows an order in progress.

However, did Orange give you your new username and password over the phone? I was told I would have to wait for such details in their letter in the post...

Hi, I signed up online, so I picked my own username/password etc, and when I'd finished, all the relevant details were emailed to me. Did you give them an alternate email address when you signed up? I haven't even got round to setting up my Orange email address yet, as all the details were sent to my hotmail.

Thanks - that explains it! I was signing up for their free 2M/2G service and had to do this by phone - don't think there's an online option for this - so I guess I'll just have to be patient!

Anyway, presumably if I keep my router switched on I should see when the carrier appears on the line?

You should do I think? I guess it'd show adsl connected even if you don't have the password yet?
  • Hi there everyone! I'm new to this forum so bear with me.
I have not had time to review the whole thread at a whacking 43 pages so I'm sorry if I've missed anything.

I too was thoroughly kicked up the proverbial in octobers V21 fiasco. I was before this a fast4 customer and was migrated when V21 were aquired by biscit. The first thing to go wrong was when my machine was rebooted after I realised what exactly was going on with my previously fantastic ISP, and why I couldn't log into the secure members area. I was struck with authenticaton errors, timeouts and host unreachable errors upon trying to connect. It seemed that if I disconnected from the internet, I would have to wait until past midday to get back on. The next thing I noticed was I had been charged twice for the month of october (clearly stated on my bank statement) and as such this had put my bank account into the overdrawn state (which is strange since I don't have an overdraft). Since then I have continued to use this ISP with frequent connection errors added to the fact that my speed-mail account seemed to dissapear for arround a month.

To try and solve this I have up to now left 4 messages in my secure members area (which haven't been replied to), I have been on the phone to customer support 7 times and gotten through once. The guy was about as useful as a kettle in the antarctic. He took my details, including my phone number and I was told someone from accounts would contact me. Did they? You guessed it! I also tried to contact accounts myself 4 times and just got the forever haunting "You have chosen to leave a message". Well, I left them 2 messages with increasing pitches and anger levels. If I leave another one believe me, only dogs will be able to hear it, which is probably a good thing considering what I might say.

For the month of November my account was "Active - Declined" since they had taken payment twice last time and had seriously annoyed my bank. However, the internet continued to work (in it's limited kinda way) until 4/12/06 when I got an e-mail reciept of payment stating £0.00 and my account was active again. "GREAT" I thought, "They've finally sorted it out". BIG Mistake! My most recent statment from the bank shows they did infact take payment 18/11/06 yet my account still remained declined until the 4/12. Trying to charge me twice again huh?

So to sum up, my internet is intermittent at best and they still have one extra payment out of me that they shouldn't have. For new users looking to get an ISP sorted out, steer clear of V21 & Biscit. For current V21 & Biscit users, you have my sympathy.

    Sorry for the essay chaps,
    Laterz.

You have my sympathy CyberD. I've had to cancel my CC to stop them taking random (excessive) amounts several times a month. As it now has gone over 100 quid I am wondering whether it would be worth taking them to the small claims court.
  • Yeah julianj, sounds like you've got it considerably worse than me. I would imagine if you did take them to small claims, they wouldn't have a leg to stand on as they are in breach of the original contract, which makes them liable.

I've heard that some people on V21 restrained by fair usage policies, but I still have around seven months of my original absolutely unlimited fast4 package now through V21. Must break their heart having to give me all this bandwidth. lol

    Cheers!
