I have dial up. Some time ago when there were problems I created v21 email accounts in addition to the speed-mail accounts which were not working. When I could connect (without the invalid username & password message) the v21 accounts have always been OK. The default speed mail account has not worked for the past couple of weeks BUT this morning all my email accounts are working!!!!!
My settings are as follows; (Sorry - not very techie - but you may be able to translate).
Connecting to 0808 9933025 (I've never changed this)
For v21 email accounts settings are;
GENERAL=mail.members.v21.co.uk
POP3=mail.members.v21.co.uk
OUTG=smtp.members.v21.co.uk
For speed mail accounts settings are;
GENERAL=mail.speed-mail.co.uk
POP3=mail.speed-mail.co.uk
OUTG=smtp.speed-mail.co.uk
May be of use to someone.
Forgot to say - I have never changed my passwords (tried - but nothing worked so changed everything back to original settings).0 -
Neither my speed-mail or my NEW @v21net.co.uk is working.
Surely the big lesson here for everyone is to forget about ISP`s email accounts and switch to Gmail/Hotmail/Yahoo etc.0 -
smtp not working again this morning......Ahhhhhhhhhhh! :mad:I'm NOT political so DON'T correct me!0

Morning Nix,
Have had a death in the family, mother's funeral yesterday,so am catching up with the SAGA this morning.
Not much improvement as far as I can see! As for me I seem to be having the same problem as yourself. No smtp, - "password rejected". I tried all the various changes as others have done, temporary password wouldn't work with anything!
So this morning, - can get on the Web, (obviously), can get one or two messages in, can access V21 Members page (have sent them a message) but cannot log on for e-mail any which way. All this with my original dial up connection (the original Fast4 one), incoming mail and outgoing mail still with speed-mail.co.uk.
Anyway, too stressed out with other things at the moment, will check the situation in a few days.
Comforting to know lots of you are still out there fighting for our rights!

Checked the ‘how to set up an internet connection guidance’ and see they have now changed from 0808 663 3025 to 0808 993 3025.
Still not allowed to log into members page.
I’m confused about the email addresses some of you guys are talking about. As a dialup customer I received an email on 6/10/06 saying I was being transferred to a new supplier and it included this:
“Your email address ending in @speed-mail.co.uk will continue to work for
some time but it will be removed within the next four weeks. You can
however now sign up for a new email address ending in @fast4.net. To do
this please log in to your members area using the URL above where you wil
find an option to create a new email account. As the @fast4.net email
address are brand new to Fast4 we would recommend that you hurry to create
your preferred address as the best addresses are bound to be the first to
go!”
So there shouldn’t have been any transfers of email addresses: only new ones. Did other people not receive such information when the transfer happened?
I did create a new address ending in @fast4.net – must have been about the only time access to the members page could be obtained before all service ceased (though apparently not for everyone).
Yes Exprog. I got that too, and like you I created a new new address at Fast4. I can't use it of course, because I can't access anything there, and it only led to increasing my confusion as to where I was a customer.0 -
Hi all, well eureka, all back to normal!!
They answered my message in the customer members V21 which I sent yesterday, at 9 this morning, apparently when they altered the passwords, mine was five letters, so anything with less than 6 letters disappeared!!!!
He put me back to my five letters I suppose manually at his end, then we altered something in the tools section accounts, we dropped the speed-mail bit,and put biscit, however, my e mail address remains xxxxxxxx@speed-mail.co.uk I could not have done this without someone going through it with me altering the settings whilst I was at my computer, so all back up and running this morning,
I asked him was I with Biscit or V21, he said V21 for now!!!
So lets hope I am the first of many to be put right, he apologised for them having not rung me back, but they did answer my query once I got on to the enquiry page, very quickly.
Apparently as I have told you all previously my 'contract' is yearly according to my account section, but I had nothing to do with that, it was set up when I was changed over from Fast 4. to V21 when I went broadband in the middle of all this mess, I could'nt have picked a worse time, They seem to be honouring my £11.99 a month payment, good!!
Will keep you posted if anything goes pear shaped and will certainly keep on reading these posts.
Many thanks to you all for your help and support, very much appreciated.
Regards oap
ps there were no messages in my in box, so whoever sent me any, they have all been lost!!!0 -
OAP - CONGRATULATIONS! :j
Did you try for any compensation/good will gesture for all your expenses and inconvenience?
Result?I'm NOT political so DON'T correct me!0 -
Well, Hallelujah, email works again!!!
Got a call back from Biscit at 9:10 this morning. They changed my email password to qazwsx, and I seem to be fine. Lost all emails since Thursday, but at least back up now.
Not sure though if it's what they did or what I did though. All seemed a bit easy from their end. Got sick of retyping qazwsx in the box as the default was my old password, so I went into properties and changed my password to qazwsx. So those of you with email problems who are still waiting for a call back may want to try this...
Off now to compose my letter to the lovely Hugh P, requesting he pay my phone bill, which must now look like the national debt of a small country!!
Reckon I'll be keeping myself up to date with this thread though, don't trust this bunch at all!!0 -

OAP
when you dropped the speedmail bit what did you put in for Biscut.
And did you alter both out going and incoming to Biscit?0 -
HotchPotch wrote:If you joined Fast4 (V21) before the 7th of October then you are a V21 (Biscit) customer and should ignore emails from the new Fast4. If you joined after that date then unfortunately you are now with the new Fast4, well that's what Fast4 claims on their homepage.
Here is a Biscit press release about it http://www.ispreview.co.uk/cgi-bin/news/viewnews.cgi?id=EEyEEypZpZkFWEUpxN
Other updates today include the restoration of services to some 800 customers who parties external to V21 migrated to an ISP called Fast4 at around the time that Biscit completed the acquisition of V21. All have since been returned to V21's networks. Customers who changed their email and Internet settings as a result of a mailing from Fast4 need only reset their original V21 settings to regain service.
HotPotch:
Thanks for the reply. Now my head hurts!
Let me see if I’ve now got this straight.
Fact. I signed up with Fast4 dialup on 1st September and received confirmation emails from new_signups@ispserve.co.uk.
Query. Fast4 was really V21 and only pretended to be Fast4.
Fact. On 6/10/06 I received two virtually identical emails informing me I was to be transferred to a new supplier. The one from unattended@v21.co.uk was from the old supplier; the one from unattended@njpservices.com was the new supplier. Ignoring emails, the only change I needed to make was to use a different phone number (i.e. 0808 991 6234). Neither email specifically named the new supplier.
Query. Some Fast4butreallyV21 customers received these emails and others did not.
Fact. Biscuit acquired V21.
Query. All Fast4butreallyV21 customers should have been transferred to V21butreallyBiscit.
Query. Actually, some Fast4butreallyV21 customers were actually transferred to a new (totally different) Fast4.
Fact. Initially the new telephone number provided to me worked intermittently but seemed to stabilise and provide good reliability by approximately the 16/17 October.
Fact/Query. The press release you cite was issued on 18th October and said that some Fast4butreallyV21 customers were wrongly transferred to the new Fast4 but were now restored to V21butreallyBiscit.
Fact. All access to Fast4/V21/Biscit ceased for me on or around 19th October.
Query. The customers transferred to V21butreallyBiscit should actually still be using 0808 993 3025.
Query. Some V21 customers have been ‘lost’ from the system but others are still receiving a service.
Query. Someone tried to cheat Biscit by depriving them of customers they had paid for.
