Hello everyone hope you've all had a good day. :)

I haven't been on much as I end up spending all day reading what people have posted instead of doing housework/work and various other things.

I'm very excited about getting back on my allotment this week, although I'm very worried about the triffids that might attack me as I get out of the car lol.

Got my first cheque from my shopping rewards...thank you again MATH. :A

Will be watching the preparing for Christmas thread with interest, I'm skint for a change  so am currently trying to find gift bags for home made fudge and peppermint creams...yum yum.

I need to go through the what are you growing thread for inspiration as I've got a large spare bit of plot on my lottie and can't think what I'd like to grow on it.

Also my little munch has started preschool which is great, she loves it and I quite like 3 hours of sanity time. I'm really looking forward to April when its free!!!

    Take care everyone. :A

    Hi all! :hello:

Welcome back JW and Mossy! We really missed you!

    Welcome Sarahmoon.

Catowen - sorry that your friend seemed to be having a go at you. It sounds to me as if she feels a bit guilty that she's not as OS as you are!

Queenie - Good luck with not smoking!

Aussielass - so glad to hear you're feeling a bit better.

Penny-Pincher - hope the hospital appts went okay.

Chilli con carne for dinner today, I think. Will have to remember to put more chilli in it this time - last time DS said it wasn't hot enough. He's always been a bit suspicious of spicy food so I was amazed!

    Best wishes to you all

  • Hi all

What a week this is turning out to be. Yesterday was just one whirlwind at work so wasn't looking forward to going back in today. Today, my boss's wife - who works with me in the main office - got a call on her mobile from a close friend. The poor woman (who is in her mid-40s) has been diagnosed with bowel cancer and has been in hospital having a major operation this week. She received a call from her husband today who was very shaken. Turns out he had called in to see how her elderly father and disabled brother were doing. Disabled brother has some mental problems and apparently becomes aggressive at any kind of stress. Husband found the father dead in his bed. The son was still in bed but obviously became distressed when the news was given to him. The poor woman was hysterical and could barely be understood. My boss and his wife immediately dropped everything and drove to take the husband to see his wife in hospital. I feel so sorry for all involved.

I know that this has nothing to do with being OS but it has affected me greatly. We just don't know what is round the next corner. Shouldn't we live each day as though it is our last? It has certainly put my problems into perspective.

Did Taplady make it out of DS1's room alive? Do we need to send a search party?

    Hi everyone!
Well I've managed to fit the odd bit of old styling in between being at work. Finally got all the paintwork around the front door and garage done on Sunday which pleased me greatly as wanted to get it done before the weather closes in. Our next task is to fill and repaint the door my friend gave me for downstairs. This task has been rather accelerated by a certain little tortoiseshell who thinks it perfectly reasonable to sit outside my door yelling "Breakfast" at 4.30 am:eek: We need to keep her downstairs and fast!!
The Chrimbo shopping trip on Sat proved very fruitful. The small person has two major hobbies- elephants and maps [Aspergic obsessions] and I managed to find him a map measurer and holder in one charity shop still in its original packaging and a boy's tshirt with an elephant on in mint condition. However, OH is already planning ways of "borrowing" the map measurer so I have told my sister to get him one for Christmas aswell!!
OS plans for this week are to get some gorgeous yarn I've seen and start knitting a scarf for my Mum. Also plan to have a crack at the choc weetabix brownies at the weekend along with some peanut cookies for 2 weekly batch bake.
    Have a great evening
    Aril
PS for those of you with moggies you can get some good free samples from the James Wellbeloved site. Mine arrived today!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY SQUISHY
You kept that quiet!!!! Hope you have had a lovely day xxxxx
  • ...Well exciting news is that we got a new black and tan jack russell puppy last night. Bit of an impulse, but then again we have wanted one for over a year, and just couldn't afford the cost of one. He's adorable, and we've called him Alfie:D So will have to get him off to the Vets as soon as for a once over and some vaccinations.

That is brilliant! You lucky person you :) My OH and I have always had dogs and, until a few years ago, it was always German Shepherds (we had four at one time and they were gorgeous...). We were also really lucky... all four lived well beyond 12 years! Most unusual! Then we started to "inherit" dogs... a mongrel from DD who couldn't cope with it (she's 11 now, was a rescue dog and has always been a bit of a pain but we love her to pieces... if ever "a dog is for life..." was put to the test that was it :))

Then, when we were down to one Shepherd we got another... she sadly died on the vets op table at nine months of pymetra... wow that was a really hard time! Anyway, we got another shortly after (not a replacement, of course, just "another dog :)... we're mad) and she is now 8.

Then, DS found out that granddaughter #2 was on the way so we inherited their Border Collie... she is the most gentle dog you could ever wish to meet! She's 6 now...

And then, just as I had convinced my OH that three dogs was more than enough for anyone, our neighbouring farm's Jack Russell had pups.

NO! NO! NO! We're not having one!

Now my OH and I have always been partial to Jack Russells...

The "pressure" (!) I was put under by OH and the farm was unbearable and one Sunday morning I relented (well I wasn't resisting that hard :)) so along came Bertie (Filbert on Sundays after the closure of Filbert Street footie ground in Leicester). He is BRILLIANT! Absolutely BRILLIANT! He just had his first birthday (born one week after 9/11).

He doubles for Rick Stein's Chalkie. They are such characters!

If you get one tenth of the pleasure out of yours that we've had out of ours then you'll never regret it!

(BTW whilst I fully respect the views of people who don't like dogs - upto a point - I can only sympathise that they will go through life and never experience one of life's great satisfactions...)

13_10_6.gif Just about made it, Happy Birthday Squishy!!!

Well British Gas didn't disappoint, they're coming tomorrow!!!! No way could they make it today, despite the hundreds of pounds I pay them!! Apparently while I can get heating OR hot water, I'm not an emergency!!! The fact that the bedroom radiators are red hot ALL the time unless I switch the boiler off doesn't count!  Then the guy tried to sell me electric and plumbing cover!!! I don't think so sweetie!!!!!:rotfl:

Oh well makes for an interesting life I suppose!!

Am looking at a last minute trip to Malta in the next few days. Don't ask why Malta, it just jumped into my head!!:o Does anyone have any recommendations?

Shez you asked the question of AussieLass I would have asked!! How does she know what cockroach poo tastes like?  Reminds me of when my Dad used to say my bath stuff made the house smell like a brothel!!! How did he know what a Brothel smelt like?? Get out of that one!!!

Must get off to bed soon, gas man could be here any time from 7 am on tomorrow!!! He'll get a shock, (and not a pleasant one!!!) if he gets here that early!! I'm no lark!

PS SnowyOwl, am I really going to have to come across to Ireland to whip you into shape, you are one of the most caring, kind human souls ever, and don't you forget that!! Any employer or person is damn lucky to have you around!! Maybe, like a lot of us you're carrying a pound or three more than is strictly healthy but so what?!!! You take care of yourself and give yourself the same sort of break you'd give anyone else!! CMxx
