Hi All! Welcome to the newbies, you'll like it here :grouphug:
Well yesterday went a bit belly-up, by lunchtime I was at the emergency doctor's getting antibiotics for a bladder infection. Not nice. Feeling a bit better today though so have managed to slice and freeze my bags of apples given to me by my mum, and also pureed a couple for my breakfast porridge this week. Have also ploughed through the usual mountain of ironing and cooked up a big cauldron of bottom-of-the-fridge soup so am not doing badly despite my sore tummy.
Lilibet - I remember turning up at friends' house one Sunday after the clocks had changed - we thought the welcome wasn't very warm, it was only when we finally had our lunch halfway through the afternoon that light dawned and we realised that they had completely forgotten about it :rotfl:
Have no idea what we're eating today apart from my soup as I'm not really hungry
Was just reading about soda bread on here though and quite fancy a chunk of that with my soup so am going to go and investigate the recipe board now.
Have a great day everyone!

Afternoon all. Have to say I love having the light mornings again - it was such a sruggle getting out of bed when its pitch black outside still.
Off out for lunch today - going to a Brewers Fayre - as I am desperately trying to stooze enough Nectar points for a discounted trip on the Orient Express for my parents 60th birthdays next year. There is a 950 points bonus when you purchase 2 adult meals - so who am I to turn down a points grabbing opportunity like that? :j :j Voucher thread here.
Have a great afternoon everyone.

morning folks,
got on okay yesterday, did some of the things on my list. Today the OH has gone to see a friend, leaving the house (and more importantly the big desk and the big puter) free for me to use, so gonna do some work on a home made calendar (i'm having photos printed to go in that) and also list that stuff for ebay i've been meaning to do for AGES.
first though... breakfast!
have a good day everyone!

Hello everyone,
What a lovely sunny day!
I remembered about the clocks and we put our watches back an hour last night before going to sleep. This morning I was being quite lazy about getting out to Asda and when I got in the car I found the battery was flat. Oh well! OH put it on to charge and I went out to the big shed and found my old wally trolley (mice have nibbled a hole in the cover )and walked over to Lidl's instead. Its about a 2 mile walk so not bad. I was quite suprised that the final amount for the weeks shopping was no cheaper than Asda's.
DS lent me his battlestar galactica DVD's to watch on Friday, I watched a group of people being 'bombed' from above in one episode then went to bed and dreamt our house was being bombed.
I really must get back to home made biscuits . Since my 2 are now both at 'college' I've been buying the penguin type biscuits for them ,they seem to expand in hunger no matter how many I buy. Time to get the cookery books back out.
OH still has his man cold much to my disgust. I got it on Sunday last week and its nearly gone but his is 2 weeks old. Nobody has any sympathy anymore though as he milks colds for all they are worth.
Well better get on...

Hello everyone and welcome newbies
I’m having a “computer working” afternoon today and am supposed to be doing my CV as my current bosses have really begun taking the P and it is definitely time to move on. Job market is apparently buoyant in my area of work just now so I’m hopeful I can find something nice soon. Working for real people instead of ar$eholes would be a massive improvement.
Its hard to stay indoors though as it is a beautiful chilly autumn day here and I’m so aware that the sun will be gone by 4:30!! Hmmm, change of order for the day I think, go out now, computer when it is dark!
The hungry water birds were waiting for me just after 6 this morning and devoured the special loaf I made them (some out-of-date Rye flour, porridge and crushed peanuts) as well as yesterdays left-over loaf. The usual gaggle of geese, moorhens, coots and gulls have now been joined by 2 beautiful swans, they are so serene. I’m told that last year they nested right outside my window in a spot that would mean I could look straight into the nest! Fingers crossed they stay loyal to their nest site. There are a lot of migrating birds using the water way as a route-finding aid just now, so I’m finding it very interesting out there.
Experimenting with bird bread has taught me a lot about my Panasonic BM! I now know why the knobbly loaves happen (mix either too wet or too solid causing the blade to make a gap and whiz round and round under the dough instead of mixing it – to fix, take it out and kneed by hand to get the right consistency then lob it back in there). I’ll add that to the appropriate bread-making thread, and also get that brought up to date now the evenings are dark again! Sorry folks, it’s been a busy summer.
Other OS jobs today include attacking my bathroom taps with soda, vinegar and an old toothbrush. A guy lived in this flat before me and it shows!
Breakfast was porridge sweetened with an apple
Lunch is a bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese
Supper, possibly pasta with a friend’s delicious roux sauce or a jacket potato.
Thanks to all who gave me advice on the combi microwave. I took the plunge and got one and it is absolutely brilliant! I love being able to set it so it microwaves then grills/bakes whatever it is I’m doing without my having to mess about with it. It’s pretty easy to learn too! The effects are not quite what I would have had with my gas oven but compare very well with the electric one I have now, so I’m very pleased.
Off out into the sunshine, bye for now :hello:
Jill xxxMy first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead
