Its good to see all the students are moving on ,took my D/D two weeks ago ,only 65miles ,I dont get to hear any news ,but she did ring tonight ,she has got cold but I did send her with lots of cold remedies.
I don't even know when 1/2 term is ,it hasn't been mentioned.
One thing for certain in this house ,there isn't the same amount of washing ironing cooking ,didn't realise how high maintainance she was.
Thought I would be really upset ,but think I was a little relieved to have less work.
It will be lovely to have her home whenever that may be.

Halfterms depend on the uni. Uni's call them "Reading Weeks". Most don't have them but a few do. Otherwise its xmas is the next time they're off.

DS was home this weekend, it was lovely to see him and to see that (as yet) he's unchanged by uni. He looked shocking from the lack of sleep though - and not through partying either, through very noisey hall-mates. He says it's like living with a bunch of kids let loose from their parents - food/broken bottles/mess everywhere.

That said, he's made a few firm friends and is enjoying the rest of the experience.:)

We went to take a bank card to our son in Portsmouth on Saturday. He is having a whale of a time. The kitchen was clean (one of the women on the same floor is cracking the whip) and he's made a load of friends.

He's drinking too much at the moment though and he still can't find a job though. Apart from that, he's enjoying his freedom, as are we!

  • DD seems to be happy and coping well with everything, though i did get 4 phone calls on Sat whilst she was attempting to do her first laundy wash, lol. She sounded awful though.....too much partying/late nights causing the dreaded freshers flu. Luckily she had no lectures today so shes spent the day catching up on her sleep and getting lost in Hull city centre!

A few names are being mentioned more and more so i guess these are the ones shes started to "gell" with, though her facebook pictures show that shes hanging around with a fairly large group from the block.

We are busy arranging to meet up for a long weekend in the Peak District at the end of Oct, so only three weeks till i see how much my little girl has grown up :)

Just dropped off DS yesterday at uni, it was very hard and I have had a knot in my stomach ever since. I know it's the best thing for him, but still I'm missing him. I wonder when he will come home, before christmas I hope! He said the others in the hall seem a nice friendly bunch and I hope he will make loads of friends. Tried ringing him tonight but he must be in a noisy pub (students union bar) as I got no reply, probably couldn't hear the phone, but have had a lot of texts today. Kids don't come with an instruction manual and I don.t think I would have ever been ready for this week.

Well DD has settled well in Birmingham, like most others has been drinking and spending far too much but everyone's course seems to have kicked in now and as fresher's is over they are all calming down (just a little!). My favourite phone call so far has been the plaintive "How do I cook sausages ?" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

And she's coming home for the weekend at the end of October :j

Same sort of story for my DD, I had four phone calls on Saturday, no not because she was missing me but because she was trying to do her washing and needed to know such things as should her white knickers with black spots go in the whites or colours wash, lol. She will learn!:T
  • I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone on this thread. It really has made things so much easier for me as a Mum to see my DD isnt the only one that had wobbbles and that I'm not the only one missing their offsprng and then feeling a wee bit guilty when I'm realising life could be pretty good when shes away

Its also lovely to see how the youngsters have all set off on their own journeys into adulthood and that they all seem to be making their way slowly, but happily........its given me a lovely warm feeling, at a time I genuinely thought I'd be cryingbuckets all day every day

So a big hug to you all and long may this thread run

My daughter has only been gone for 2½ weeks, but it feels like months lol
She has still not figured out how to get the duvet in the cover!
She says she may come home Friday night but will go back to UNI on Saturday as there is a charity thing she wants to go to. I miss her, but the house is so much more tidier since she has been gone :)
