Who else is saying goodbye tomorrow for the first time ?

Options
DD1 is off to Uni tomorrow and I wondered who else was saying goodbye for the first time this weekend ?

I am so proud off DD for getting into her first choice place and know she is going to have an absolute ball but know I will drive away with a lump in my throat as to me, despite the fact that she's 19, I'll be leaving my baby behind.

Good luck to everyone going off for the first time and good luck to the poor parents who will have a long drive home ..............

    WE ARE !
our ds 2 is off to Liverpool ( his first choice too!) on Sunday
we are SO proud of him - his brother has ASD and semantic pragmatic language disorder, so ds2 is the first in our family to gain a uni place..........................

I am very excited for him - but will miss his wonderful sense of humour and loving ways - and will constantly worry about him getting up for lectures- he's doing a vocational course rather than a purely academic one, so he has lectures from 9-5 every day

still........ it's a new challenge and part of growing up

  • Hope it goes well Amanda 65 and kazzah60. I have lots of friends in the same situation; some had theirs go off to Glasgow last weekend. The ones who have teenagers going to St. Andrews and Aberdeen go tomorrow. Also one left today to go to KCL. I have DS until 1st October and then he goes down South. I keep telling myself that I am lucky because his is a 3 year course and each year only consists of 3 x 8 week terms, so 72 weeks in total! I also think the positives are that I will spend far less on food and utilities; the house will be much tidier; there will be far less washing; no more lying awake waiting for him to come home, etc., etc. The negatives are that I will miss him like crazy; he has to learn to ride a bike and I will worry about what could happen especially on dark rainy nights; what if he hates his course; what if he hates the university, etc. Shame they have to grow up!

My daughter is off to UNI tomorrow :(
I shall miss her loads, but I am very proud of her. We are going up in two cars, and will help her to set up her room if she wants us to, then we will be taking her out for lunch...and then it will be goodbye (for now)
I have been very emotional for the last few days. It has been manic, but very sad at the same time....her room is nearly empty, so it is actually looking tidy for a change lol.
    Keep happy everyone :)

My thoughts are with you all. I understand the pride and the upset, it is such a big step and adjustment for all. The first few weeks are awful but you do get used to it, and then they come home lol. I couldn't even go into dd's room whilst she was away cause I got upset.Have just dropped her off for her 2nd year and still shed a tear as I drove away but I know she will be fine as will I.

We too are dropping DS at Liverpool tomorrow, nice long drive, great.
1st time we left him I cried the minute I saw him go out of sight up a flight of stairs & then for 1.5 hrs driving home. His dad was promising me the moon & stars to console me. Remember it like it was yesterday.
He loves it there now & finds home nightlife boring in comparison as the place is buzzing. He studys a bit too.
It will get easier to say goodbye but I still feel like he's all alone.

We stayed with my daughter until half five, had lunch at Prezzo.
She is on Level 10, no lifts! Phew, what a job up and down stairs with boxes galore.
She rang me several times last night, once when she was in bed and scared as we have always left the landing light on at home. I told her to leave her bathroom light on lol
Military themed party tonight, one of many parties ahead :)

My DS number 3 went yesterday, number 2 is currently on an archaelogical dig in Rome and comes back next Saturday and goes back to uni Sunday. Number 1 is buying his first place and hopes to move in sometime this Autumn (I'm so proud as he is only 22). That means that we've gone from a household of 5 down to 2 in just a couple of months.

    It's very quiet
