my baby has gone to liverpool uni, first year.i notice a couple of others going to liverpool aswell.what are they studying?
i put my son in a private uni flat because he weas offered mulberry, was horrendous......sharing a bathroom with 7 people.its on campus and they keep it for disabled and foreign students.my son has chronic fatigue but i didnt think that place was right for him.he moved into his flat a couple of weeks ago, couldnt wait.he loves it.we live half hour away so its fine but i still miss him being here:(
the flat is 5 bedrooms with their own locked door, ensuite shower, toilet etcand communal kitchen/lounge.wouldnt mind living there myself, have threatened to move in,should have seen the face:rotfl::rotfl:

Hi Cherub - my son is studying radiotherapy -
it's interesting you say about the disabled and foreign students accommodation being better - my son has a disability - Erb's Palsy - and i did try to suggest to him he could apply for disabled accommodation but he wanted the whole "normal" uni experience - and insisted that those rooms were for people who needed them and he didn't feel he needed any special treatment - to be fair his disability only affects his arm - it is partially paralysed and he doesn't have mobility needs and is very fit and healthy, so i was proud of him and his attitude
we ahve always brought him up to have a go at everything, some things he manages, some things he can't - but he doesn't feel hard done to - so i guess we did something right with him !
I hope your son copes well - it must be such a worry when they have an illness, it just adds to all that mum stress !

I would love to see my sons face if I said I was moving in with him - I can just picture it :rotfl::rotfl:

Best wishes to everyone. My daughter is off to Liverpool Hope on Saturday, staying in what is popularly known as Harry Potter Halls. They are lovely, wish I was going!

Hi Thamesider - my friends son is just starting his 2nd year at Liverpool Hope - he has had a fantastic time there and he has matured SO much since going - he stayed in halls 10 miles away from his campus last year, and said he couldn't stand the hour and a half bus ride into Uni so he's moved into a student house this year

he did say I could go and see it - but I declined, I dread to think what state it would be in and I think I am better off not knowing what awaits my son next year when he rents a house with other students ! :rotfl:
  • Kazzah60 - hi, yes best not seeing the mess! HA HA. My daughter has Foetal ValProate Syndrome which includes mobility problems and I must admit I hope she is offerred (spelling does not look right!) continuing accommodation after Freshers year.
  • When I was at uni, I didn't really get on with the people in my corridoor so I just made friends elsewhere (the floor above mine!)-they were the best friends anyone could have asked for. We looked out for each other (we were mostly all girls) and if one of us was in trouble we would help each other out. Particularly if someone had had one too many. Don't worry too much - most people are nice and look after each other - my best friend used to bring me breakfast, lunch and dinner if ever I was ill, and I did the same for her.
I hope I've eased some jittery nerves!

DS was dropped off at Lincoln yesterday and both me his little sister and girlfriend have all been crying buckets. His room looked like a cell too and I know he struggled last night as the other 5 in his flat seem to be party animals and he's not so he's just been sitting around with not much to do as they dont really get started until next week. He's going out for a walk in the morning as he hasnt got anything to do until 3pm! He's my rock and I miss him

we dropped DD off at Lincoln on Sunday and its so like a prison cell :( she was really upset that we had to leave her there :cry:and we have had a few texts but she seems to be settling in a bit better now.She has had a few nights out with her "neighbours" and a couple of talks at the Uni so things seem to be a bit better and she is talking about coming home on Oct 7th just before her BF leaves for Uni at york.....not so sure this is a good idea as she will just be getting used to uni life and I'm worried coming back home will make it worse when she goes back to Lincoln.......any advice would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks DB

P.S. I was a single mum for 16 years since she was a baby and until I met my wonderful partner so we are really close and the longest we have been separated is for 9 days this year when she went on holiday after her A levels and she is 3 hours away from home so its kinda tough for us both

Dropped my DD1 off at Lincoln on sunday. Was a bit shocked at the rooms as they are over £100 a week. Anyway she seems to be settling in well but I miss her terribly as she is my best friend. She is going to be coming home on a weekend for work as she hasnt got the same loan/grant as everyone else because we earn to much.

  • Hi, we'll be taking DS1 off the Hull this weekend.
He's already seen the Uni and accommodation (which is a nice en-suite), so we're not worried about that, and he's already made friends with some people who are in the same accommadation block as him (via student Forum and msm/facebook), so subsequently he's not worried at the prospect of leaving home at all.
It's me that's the problem. I've been in pieces all week and am dreading the thought of he leaving. I'll miss him so very much - he's a huge piece of my life.... DS2 is going to miss him loads too, so we've made a pact to jolly eachother along!!

Dropped my son in Portsmouth on Saturday. His room has a fantastic view right over Hayling Island, all boats and sea.

I'm not worried about him at all. He's very self-sufficient. He's part-catered, so I only had to leave him with 30 fishfingers, a bag of oven chips, some frozen sweetcorn, jam, rice, pasta and 15 bottles of Bud!

He's trying to get a job but finding the recession has hit the Portsmouth job market quite hard.

His dad and I are enjoying the peace and quiet. (He took his bass guitar with him)
