  • Said goodbye to my only child today, DD18 dropped off at Huddersfield uni, wanted us to help unpack, set tv up and internet then it was time for us to leave..........I broke down in brilliant fashion, much to my shame as i had promised myself i wouldnt get upset in front of her, her response.....MAN UP! I was delighted, my baby was fine :) Just texted to say she is on the bus on her way to meet up with the others on her law course so all is well...for now

Well all went well - her room is lovely and we had a great time with her helping to make it look homely (alhtough I'm not sure her dad and I spent as much when we moved into our first house ).

Managed to hold it together when we said goodbye yesterday but keep wanting to text / phone tocheck she is OK - I wonder when this feeling will subside ;) She's two hours aay (we live in Surrey and she's in Birmingham) but planning a trip home in October, no doubt with piles of washing !

Hope it went well for everyone else who was in the same boat this weekend x

My mum gets annoyed when I don't text her to say I've arrived! I'm now in my 4th year and she still texts me after 2.5 hours (takes me 2 hours to drive) saying "ARE YOU THERE YET!?! WHERES MY TEXT?" haha. :o
  • well we took DS2 to Liverpool - the rooms at Rankin Hall were like prison cells - I felt very wary of leaving him there, but once we had put quilt covers on and his bits and bobs (junk) round the room it looked a bit better - thankfully he is not that fussed about his immediate surroundings ( which explains the state of his bedroom LOL)

we went for a lovely meal in a restaurant near Sefton Park and left him at about 6 o'clock
it was awful watching him wave us off- but I managed to NOT cry until I was in the car (phew)

sent him a text at 11pm - to see if he was Ok - got the reply " hi, am fine, am just waiting to go into a club "
part of me was relieved that he had made some friends - then the dread of him getting drunk set in !!

text him this morning and he was fine - even got up for breakfast at 8 am - phew what a relief

so - just his bedroom to dig out now LOL
thanks for starting the thread Amanda - it's made me feel better knowing I'm not alone!

My daughter is now in full swing at UNI lol
The first day, she rang me several times and loads of texts.
Already on day three, hardly any contact from her :(
Oh well, the one email she sent today has assured us all she is fine and was about to buy her ticket for the second party tonight.
We have just given her bedroom at home a mini makeover....she is a very messy person. It has been nice to be able to get in there at last and give it a clean and tidy up.

Know exactly what you mean. Am confident with her 'home' friends that they all look out for each other and if one gets ver much the worse for wear someone else seems to sober up pretty quickly and take care of them. Why I assume that everyone she is at uni with is going to be uncaring I don't know :rotfl::rotfl:
  • DS was dropped off at Lincoln yesterday and both me his little sister and girlfriend have all been crying buckets. His room looked like a cell too and I know he struggled last night as the other 5 in his flat seem to be party animals and he's not so he's just been sitting around with not much to do as they dont really get started until next week. He's going out for a walk in the morning as he hasnt got anything to do until 3pm! He's my rock and I miss him
Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!

Oh Kazmeister - I feel for you - there is nothing worse than knowing your "quiet" one is in with a load of noisy types - my ds1 is such a quiet boy - he would never have coped going away to uni at all.
I am quite releived that my son is doing a radiotherapy course and they have lectures from 9 am until 4.30 EVERY day - so I know he will be occupied for the most part of the day - the thought of your son going out for a walk because he doesn't have anything to do really upsets me.
    sending you a big hug

my baby has gone to liverpool uni, first year.i notice a couple of others going to liverpool aswell.what are they studying?
i put my son in a private uni flat because he weas offered mulberry, was horrendous......sharing a bathroom with 7 people.its on campus and they keep it for disabled and foreign students.my son has chronic fatigue but i didnt think that place was right for him.he moved into his flat a couple of weeks ago, couldnt wait.he loves it.we live half hour away so its fine but i still miss him being here:(
the flat is 5 bedrooms with their own locked door, ensuite shower, toilet etcand communal kitchen/lounge.wouldnt mind living there myself, have threatened to move in,should have seen the face:rotfl::rotfl:
    Shine on you crazy diamond..............
  • Best wishes to everyone. My daughter is off to Liverpool Hope on Saturday, staying in what is popularly known as Harry Potter Halls. They are lovely, wish I was going!
