When I was at uni, I didn't really get on with the people in my corridoor so I just made friends elsewhere (the floor above mine!)-they were the best friends anyone could have asked for. We looked out for each other (we were mostly all girls) and if one of us was in trouble we would help each other out. Particularly if someone had had one too many. Don't worry too much - most people are nice and look after each other - my best friend used to bring me breakfast, lunch and dinner if ever I was ill, and I did the same for her.
I hope I've eased some jittery nerves!
Hi thanks for that its nice to know

we dropped DD off at Lincoln on Sunday and its so like a prison cell :( she was really upset that we had to leave her there :cry:and we have had a few texts but she seems to be settling in a bit better now.She has had a few nights out with her "neighbours" and a couple of talks at the Uni so things seem to be a bit better and she is talking about coming home on Oct 7th just before her BF leaves for Uni at york.....not so sure this is a good idea as she will just be getting used to uni life and I'm worried coming back home will make it worse when she goes back to Lincoln.......any advice would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks DB

P.S. I was a single mum for 16 years since she was a baby and until I met my wonderful partner so we are really close and the longest we have been separated is for 9 days this year when she went on holiday after her A levels and she is 3 hours away from home so its kinda tough for us both
DS has already talked about coming home this weekend! i'm just a bit worried as he has gone quiet, no reply to texts, nothing at all on FB nor a reply to the message I sent him on there. Hoping no news is good news.

Dropped my DD1 off at Lincoln on sunday. Was a bit shocked at the rooms as they are over £100 a week. Anyway she seems to be settling in well but I miss her terribly as she is my best friend. She is going to be coming home on a weekend for work as she hasnt got the same loan/grant as everyone else because we earn to much.
I know the cost was shocking when you see them, shower looked disgusting, but then he's a lad so hate to think what it will look like when he's finished with it! DS has signed up for some job search thing as he only gets the basic loans. Hope she hasnt got far to travel.
Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!

:( I'm sure he'll be fine - my friend has just gone up to manchester and even though freshers week has just started he hasn't met that many people yet.
Will your DS be joining any sports clubs or societies? That's where I met the bulk of my friends. Try not to worry too much.

Hi Cherub - my son is studying radiotherapy -
it's interesting you say about the disabled and foreign students accommodation being better - my son has a disability - Erb's Palsy - and i did try to suggest to him he could apply for disabled accommodation but he wanted the whole "normal" uni experience - and insisted that those rooms were for people who needed them and he didn't feel he needed any special treatment - to be fair his disability only affects his arm - it is partially paralysed and he doesn't have mobility needs and is very fit and healthy, so i was proud of him and his attitude
we ahve always brought him up to have a go at everything, some things he manages, some things he can't - but he doesn't feel hard done to - so i guess we did something right with him !
I hope your son copes well - it must be such a worry when they have an illness, it just adds to all that mum stress !

I would love to see my sons face if I said I was moving in with him - I can just picture it :rotfl::rotfl:

no,the disabled bit is horrendous!! that is mulberry.the reason was for him to be close as the travelling would have worn him out.in fact, the private flat is closer if anything.the disabled bit is too quiet,i belive its lock down and everyone in bed by 9pm,my son moved into the flat as soon as he could, loves it,has even cooked!!he seems a lot better to be honest, back in a routine.dont think theres a night he hasnt been out,he missed out last year when all his mates went away to uni,he had year out studying from home to get back on track healthwise.didnt work, but he has to get on with it he says.am so proud of him.
    Shine on you crazy diamond..............

Best wishes to everyone. My daughter is off to Liverpool Hope on Saturday, staying in what is popularly known as Harry Potter Halls. They are lovely, wish I was going!

Which Halls are these? I've lived in Liverpool for 5 years in various student accommodation, including Halls but never heard any nicknamed "Harry Potter" halls. I thought maybe it might be my halls, North Western, as they do look rather suitable...

DS was dropped off at Lincoln yesterday and both me his little sister and girlfriend have all been crying buckets. His room looked like a cell too and I know he struggled last night as the other 5 in his flat seem to be party animals and he's not so he's just been sitting around with not much to do as they dont really get started until next week. He's going out for a walk in the morning as he hasnt got anything to do until 3pm! He's my rock and I miss him

My eldest son was a quiet one and I worried so much about him. He did spend quite a bit of time on his own, but also got spectacularly drunk one night as he was teetotal before he went to uni and was unused to drink.
He phoned me the next day, telling me how ill he was and saying how he had been sick in bed and couldn't get up as his head was awful. I panicked and thought he had miningitis and was ready to jump in the car and drive down there, until he mentioned the drinking session!

  • So many people saying their kids are off to Liverpool on here! Don't worry, they'll have an amazing time. Liverpool's such an incredible city for students.

    Hello,

I also really reccomend joining a sports club or a society. It really helped me to meet people around the campus and from other courses/years.

It could also be useful as there is option to be on a committee or involved in the society if you want to get involved with that.
