Has anyone been told the wrong gender at 20 week scan?

Has anyone been told the incorrect gender at their 20 week scan or know anyone who has? Either told they were expecting a boy and had a girl or told they were expecting a girl and had a boy?

Thanks

The only time I have ever heard this happening was to a woman from work who was expecting a girl and produced a boy.

She was absolutely distraught and beside herself - a slight over-reaction given that the child is perfectly healthy and a delightful little guy - she brought him into work and he was lovely.

I think the only way to be 100% sure is to have an amniocentisis, but that has a risk of miscarriage, so unless you are high risk it's not worth it.

Yes! I am a midwife and I remember back to the days when people were not told of the sex of their baby they were expecting. Anyway, one of the sonographers was expecting and as a favour a colleague told her that she was expecting a girl when she had her USS- they went and bought all the pink stuff, and then they had a boy.
  • When my daughter was born i was told that the baby was a boy. So hubby went and informed everyone. An hour later a different midwife was checking the baby and realised that he was really a girl. Luckily she hadnt left my side or i would have demanded dna testing.

Didnt do sexing scans in those days. Luckily.:rotfl:

    MEEEEEE!

They told me that ds was a girl at my 20 week scan but I had to have a few more scans later on because the placenta was low and they wanted to check I would be safe to deliver normally, so at 34 weeks I found out that my Laurie was actually a Matthew lol

Luckily I hadn't gone mad an bought a load of pink stuff (don't do the whole girlie pink thing) but my poor MIL had been knitting pink cardigans and was rather upset lol

Not personally, but am a midwife and have delivered 2 of the 'wrong' sex (one of either way) and known of several more - probably why I'm not convinced on gender of this baby by scan

My cousin had an amnio and was told she was having a girl, she then went on to produce a healthy boy. The most likely explanation was that they had tested the mother's blood not the baby's, therefore negating the purpose of the amnio.

It seems crazy that someone should be able to sue? I mean it's obvious that a scan is never going to be 100% accurate, and even besides that, sex is sometimes not clear even on birth. That's a shame a small minority ruined it for everyone.

thats mad! When they told me that ds was a girl they did say that sexing by ultrasound isn't 100% accurate at that point. I can't see how anyone could (or would want to) sue the hospital for getting it wrong.
