'But this is Tesco, it's your policy to give a full refund', I stated, putting the offending coins firmly back in her hand. 'Not in here' she tried, and on it went for a couple of minutes, how amusing, over the princely sum of £1.56!

Of course she paid up. I'll be back...........:rotfl:

I had a similar experience last week in a Tesco Express over £1.34!

There are also risks involved, Chloe. Some people have been banned from stores. You need to keep this in mind. If you cannot afford the possibility of being banned from your local, and then involve yourself in a lengthy battle with Tesco, either make sure you keep a low profile or shop in stores which are not important to you.

Very true, try to avoid your local and only do it if you have thick skin, always remember to keep calm (you've done nothing wrong)
  • i kind of guessed people had been banned from stores from some of the older posts, it all sounds good but i dont think in reality i could do this all day every day, but ive had one r&r and feel confident to do it again, we are in an area where there are a few tescos very close by and i do go to a different one quite often so should be able to do ok out of it by rotating stores.

Just had terrible experience in Kilmarnock store. Noticed £20 of Virgin & Vodafone handsets was still up. Bought a Motorola L6 and discount didn't come off. Pointed this out at CS and SA went back to shelf, removed the A$ poster and said she'd speak to her manager. She said "It's not your fault, you'll get your money back. This is out of date" I replied I was familiar with this policy as it happened a few weeks ago too with a book I'd bought.

Waited at desk for a few minutes and the next thing I know 3 or 4 staff were around me with the manager waving the A4 poster in my face saying "Where did you get this, this is not our point of sale" I replied "Excuse me" at which point he started a total rant and told the CS guy to call the police! He was saying "I'm fed up with this, we've had this in here before, I'm not giving you a refund, just call the police" He then proceeded to rip up the poster in front of my face stating "THERE!" I asked him exactly what he was accusing me of and if he thought I printed my own poster. He answered that he wasn't giving me any refund and that was that. I asked for his name which he gave but was very aggressive and attempting to be intimidating throughout. This at the front door of Tesco at 5.45 on a Friday evening, very embarrassing. I asked what he would like me to do now as he had stated that he was calling the police. He replied "Just go" He still had my reciept and top up voucher which I asked him to return and he had crunched them up in his hand in his anger! I then left the shop and I went to the police station to report his threatening and abusive manner and to keep myself in the right. Head Office closed by the time I got home so I'll be calling first thing tomorrow.
Is it better to do this in writing or over the phone?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

First of all OH MY GOD!

If what your saying is true then I CANNOT BELIEVE that they have stooped this low. That kind of treatment is AN UTTER DISGRACE. Honestly the threatening and intimidation and ripping of of poster and scrunching up of your top-up, I GUARANTEE that this is enough to have that manager on his hairy ar*e tomorrow. Forget an apology, this guy deserves to be sacked. Hoenstly iv had bad treatment but that from a manager, UTTER DISGRACE. Call HO and tell them you want to speak to Sir Terry, and then when they say no (they blatantly will) then tell them the next most senior person available. And tell the the whole story including ALL the adjectives used here. Tell them you have spoken to the police. I sware tesco have begun to get me pi***** off now. Theyre own bloody policy, theyre own bloody mistakes and theyre own sh*t customer service!

fully agree farhan, action needs to be taken on that one.
  • Thanks for the offers all.

Can we confirm that if they do not take the £20 off then you are still awarded the console and game. I have a slight feeling they will almost certainly claim it is the game only.

Confirmed in 2 stores about 35 miles apart that the £20 discount applied for the Xbox360 Preium (£279.97) and Godfather Game as the "Game of the week" (£39.97) does not work. Fill your boots quick! :D

Searched 6 stores tonight, no posters up !, looks like they have decided to play it safe?

Most of the posters that have neen spotted seem to be from the north (strange)

No. Its to do with the way pricing works on catch-weight (ie meat) product.

Rather than each pack getting the same price (like you would get with a can of beans), they are priced by weight.

So if the SEL says 8.00/kg and the pack says 9.00/kg, it is going to charge at the higher price.

Unlike with the beans, it is not possible to do a blanket price adjustment. Each pack needs to be individually corrected. This is why it goes wrong so often - its a pain to do and often gets missed.

omg, now i feel really stupid because i still dont get it :(

so if the SEL says 8.0kg for say £9.99..a 9kg would automatically be priced accordingly, therefoe more say £10.99?

but if the SEL said 8kg how do you get away with saying 9kg is overpriced?

i feel really dumb, i thought i was intelligent but this thread has me beaten :(

I'd still argue that it's on the bundle, as you have to buy both to get the discount. Use BOGOFs as an example. If you buy one to get one free and you get charged for two, would you accept the money back for just the one you should have had for free, or both (as you have been overcharged on a multisave deal)? No. You'd expect a full refund on both items, as you were required to purchase both in order to receive a 100% discount on one of the items. On the receipt, had the discount kicked in (on the console deal), it would say multisave -£20.00. This indicates that the offer is on the bundle, not just the game.
