As reported on todays news....no argument there although i did see that the pin protection may well be implemented on some of the self scans as early as next week.

Machines can only make mistakes if mistaken data is put into them. If the reduction label is scanned then that is the price that will be charged.

I dont understand how they make you feel stupid. Granted the womans voice is more than a little annoying but the technology is new to this country and therefore it is going to take a while for people to get used to it. I have never thought anyone stupid when they have had a problem with the tills, more than anything I have respect for them for trying something new.

They are not there to prevent overcharging or misprices.
Do checkout operators make mistakes? Yes absolutely, think double scans, missed reduction labels etc. All tesco staff are trained, some admittedly may not seem that way but no one is just plonked onto a checkout and told to get on with it!!
Do Tesco's access how rough/criminally minded the area the store is in before having Self Service Checkouts ?0 -

Why do Tesco's have scanners in store that facilitate R&R abuse ?0 -

These are price-checkers.
I strongly suspect that these are installed as a customer-friendly feature for confused shoppers to, umm, price-check.
Another case solved.
The kids also love playing with them.

I think the Scanners are there to help normal shoppers not to make R&Ring easier.0 -
I went to a tesco EXTRA last night, and they had no xbox360's or scanners.
All i saw was computers every so often that were off. But they did have a scanner, are these the scanners you use?
I assumed they would be simple boxes on the walls!0 -

Each to their own Dude.
I must admit i have done this a few times...BUT will NOT be doing it again.. too many sleepless nights and dont want to get too greedy.0 -
Collected my refund from store today, on the L6 today, courtesy of another phonecall from headoffice. Not a manager to be seen, cs had the details and refunded me without asking for authorisation. She did however state that the phone was no longer guaranteed to which I replied that the poster behind her stated my statutory rights are not affected. She changed to my guarantee would be with head office and I said as long as its guaranteed thats all that matters. Feeling still a little annoyed I decided to avail myself of some of the operation games where extra discount is coming off and I even had my bags packed. Felt a bit better then.0

Also like to add that with this thing about getting a double refund on an item you had free..
I got a mobile a few nights ago and after being refunded the little old lady said. " right here is your receipt and information leaflets, any problems then with the handset then ring the number or if you change your mind then you can get a full refund or exchange!" which did make me think it can't be fraud she clearly just gave me a full refund and then said "if you change your mind just pop back in!" Maybe she was on her last legs and memory was kicking in..who knows0 -
Anyone know if the Xbox & PSP promotions work today? They should be new this morning.0

Hi guys I am new to this website so please bear with me if this question seems a bit dumb..
I am really intrigued by this R+R policy with Tesco, but am a bit puzzled about what the best method to go about getting this is.
Should I be looking for items that have been reduced on the shelves (so like, they might have been reduced from £5 to £3.99 or something) and then they don't show the lower price on the checkout? How am I to know what will and won't work? I've read loads about how you guys pick up free toasters, DVDs.. the lot - but I am confused as to how you find the mispriced items.
Do you have to go on the self service checkouts? I'd really be interested in doing this, being a student and all, but like I said, I am confused!
Oh, and I have read loads of threads on this website but can't find an explanation, so hence this post!
Hi, well I can see how the first page of the thread doesn't quite show you what to look for, but for newbies I would advise to start off looking for things people have posted as wrongly priced, on the misprices thread. Not phones or xboxes, just some simple stuff like 300g Fruit Shoots or BBQ Doritos (offer fails) or the Peanuts where the price is clearly 95p on the SEL and the till charges you more. No need to go to self-service checkouts, I always go to a cashier.
Or maybe find the 2 for £5 SEL for Quality St, Celebrations, Heroes (scanning 2 for £6) but you will have to check out lots of stores to find wrong SELS left up.
Then get used to taking your item and receipt to CS and saying vaguely 'it looks as though the price on my receipt is more than I think it was on the shelf'. Then keep quiet, let them check it out (maybe follow them to the shelf) then only comment further if they offer you the difference, when you will need to politely point out the policy.
You can easily find mispriced meat/fish yourself. Just get used to checking the price per kg on the SEL against the packs, often the older packs will be at the previous, higher price and will scan as such but only if they have been worked out by weight.
DON'T pick up more than 6 packs of anything for an R&R, and with phones & electricals only pick up one (or two if you are sure you can, if necessary, calmly explain to CS why you would need two toasters etc). You WON'T get away with 20 phones!
Gradually you will start to notice and remember prices because you will be in a Tesco most days! You will also notice offers ending, and perhaps make a mental note to check the day after expiry if the SEL has been left out. But often offers are extended anyway...
Finally, some CS staff are lovely and others complete dragons, but always stay calm and don't be intimidated or drawn into any argument. If necessary repeat your reasoning like a cracked record, if you are sure you are right.
HTHPRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
