The op this won this item fair and square, the seller cant have it both ways. He clearly wasn't happy that it ended at that price and gave excuses which to be Frank were lies from what I have seen.

Of course he cant be made to sell the item but if more people gave honest feedback we could eventually get rid of people like that and includes buyers too who mess people around, but it isn't the case here as the buyer isn't at fault.

The seller saying he rather break the item than sell it at that price clearly shows to me that he was disappointed at the price and would rather have joy breaking the item than sell it at that prices, ridiculous and petty :(

Hmmm….. I think your all being a bit unfair. It’s the sensible sellers on ebay who constantly get screwed by listing fees, paypal fees, rule changes to prevent us doing anything that would result in the company earning less outa this.

As sellers we watch as our auctions are constantly ruined by foreign zero feedbackers or as people file ridiculous paypal claims and freeze our accounts at the click or a button with absolutely no justification.

I once sold a set of tickets for 20 quid.. and at the price I decided to keep them and go myself. Id understand if I were the bidder than a fifth of somethings face value isn’t a fair deal.

I agree with the seller. Give him a break for goodness sake.
I take your point about sellers getting screwed, but that does not give them the right to screw their customers. If you list with a low start price (and no reserve), you accept the risk that your item may sell for peanuts. I suspect it's happened to most of us at some point.
I might have had a little sympathy for the seller until I read this bit:
After an exchange of more emails yesterday the guy said "he would rather snap the thing than sell it for £10.50"
With an attitude like that, he deserves all he gets. I'd not only neg him but report him to ebay and hope he gets suspended.

Has anyone looked at the feedback this guy has left for others? The Neg he left last week speaks volumes...

Welcome to ebay. I hope your never a seller and have to put up with the crap we do...

Well I'm a seller and I would still not put up with sellers like this, the fact that he tried to lie his way out with the nonsense about the reserve of £20 not working shows he is either a scammer or TSFE.

As a seller I do get cross when buyers think they can walk away from a deal, but if sellers start confirming that wins are 'flexible' then we would only have ourselves to blame if buyers think that too.

The thing sold, the seller was too stupid or too tight to list it at a start price he was happy with so at the very least deserves a non performing seller complaint.

I know what your saying.. you won fair and square, but there comes a point where youd rather keep the damn item than sell it for peanuts. And at the end of the day when so many buyers constantly fail to pay or demand refunds why shouldnt sellers be allowed to cancel the deals too?

I understand what you are saying about buyers, but I am not one of thise people. If I have entered into a contract an agreed to pay a set price for an item, I will pay it, but I also expected to receive the item as part of the same contract.

I do sell things on ebay, I put things with a starting price and understand that i will have to send if it only sells for that price. As others have said, it's all part of the game!

I am gonna neg him, he deserves it, I'm also going to file a dispute against him. I have managed to contact other buyers and I know he has done the same thing to at least one other person. I have also asked them to file a dispute and neg him in the hope that ebay take action an he will not be able to get away with these dodgy dealings.

I could say more. but getting far too wound up!

Kriss_boy, whats your ebay id? I'll make a note not the buy from you with your underhand dealings!

Ebay if definately not swings and roundabouts for sellers... not by a long shot...

We list things at 99p because we know it wont sell at that price
    .

That's a load of tosh, what you mean is we HOPE it won't sell at that price.

Im pretty certain none of my guitars which are worth approx £1000 will EVER sell for only 99p. It all depends on what your selling and sometimes people get it wrong.

Winning an auction is hardly a contract. And like I say, I bet non-paying bidders outnumber sellers who choose not to sell at about 100 to 1. Ive never had a seller decline a sale, but ive had probably not far off 100 nonpaying bidders!

Only till you sell a decent amount of things, and i mean 'mainstream things' phones, clothes, computer games, will you ever realise how frequently us sellers are treated like crap!!!

Ebay does nothing to help us out cept raise fees and think of ways to outsmart us finding cheaper ways to sell.

If I want to sell a guitar for £3000 the reserve is around £100.. how can they justify that?!?!?! £100 fee even if the guitar doesnt sell... its disgusting... and If we get a non paying bidder they take the cut and it can take weeks if not a month to get the money back.....

I do sell mainstream things and have a few thousand feedback over 3 ids and don't experience the volumes of problems with buyers that you seem to indicate are out there.

Yes ebay fees are high and I personally would like a reduction in what I pay, wouldn't we all! However realistically if it hadn't been for ebay I wouldn't have made the sort of money I've managed over the past years. Therefore I'm paying for a service and am completely entitled to walk away and stop selling at any time should I feel hard done by, I have no need to lie to my buyers or walk away from my auctions.

I rest on my reputation, if I lost that by being underhand or by treating my buyers poorly then my sales would suffer, as will happen eventually to sellers like the one in the OP.

  • I am a seller on ebay and I can't believe the attitude of some of the other sellers posting on this thread. If I start something at 99p and get 99p for it, fine, it's just the luck of the draw. I'm still making a profit overall or I wouldn't have put it on at that price.

I have a feedback rating of over 1500 on so-called "mainstream" items such as cds, dvds, and videos so I feel fairly confident on what will sell and what won't. If you're getting it wrong enough times to impact on your profit, perhaps you need to rethink whether ebay is the right place to sell??
  • Im pretty certain none of my guitars which are worth approx £1000 will EVER sell for only 99p.

If they're worth 1000, why start at 99p?

One item I've been watching lately, for example, started at 100 pounds, is now up to over 800 pounds and it's still not hit the reserve, nor is it likely to before the auction ends... if they won't sell it for under a thousand, why start that low? Are they just hoping that people will get into a bidding war over something that's not worth that much (personally I'd have paid 450-500 for it)?

    I just don't get it.
