Ours is a combi-boiler, and so the radiators don't stay stone-cold if theres been hot water running for baths etc. I just pop the damp towels over the radiators, and they are dry by next morning.

surely your radiator pipes are seperate from you hot water bath tap pipes though?

ie. when i fill my bath it doesn't send water through the radiators.
  • Ooo went mad last night, had a moan I was cold so went and got a cardy out and some warm socks and while my back was turned OH put the heating on and didn't mention it, within half an hour I had a right sweat on and took my cardy off and realised he'd been toying with the heating.

Shouted at him that we're not made of money and a cardy would surfice until November and he shuffled off to turn it off. Bad boy. He had the nerve to sit there in a t-shirt and tell me he felt a bit cold too. Wimp.

  • ive just put mine on boost for an hour as my thermometer is reading 13 degrees in the living room which is a bit to chilly for me. try keeping it off as long as possible, but no to worried about the heating bills as my dd is slightly higher than it was last year to ensure i dont have to worry about having the heating on for an extra few hours every now and then.

I have no idea how it works :o - it just does. The radiators aren't hot, but they're not stone cold either, theres definitely a little heat through them once a bath has been run.
  • We're in Kent. My parents have just put their heating on as have the in-laws to be. Ours is still off though. As I type the patio doors are still open!

  • 4 degrees this morning in the Peak District - mine is set to 14 minimum overnight and 20 degrees during the day and it's been kicking in recently.
  • oooh reading this i feel like i'm a bit of a wimp, coz i turned my heating on tonight - and i'm down south in London... Although we have rather strange windows with large gaps in the top that let the cold in (that's my excuse!!)

  • YES!!!!!!!

Got home late last night from an unexpected visit to the hospital... no heaters in the car and just couldn't warm up when we got back :o Problem now is that it's fairly cold tonight and I'm trying my hardest not to turn it back on everytime I walk past the temp dial :rotfl:

We'll be extra careful with food (more than normal, if thats possible) through the winter to make sure the house isn't cold. We don't have it turned up too high and still need a thick jumper... although mid September is early even for us :o
Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.

Another Lanarkshire punter here - some days it's sunny, some days it's freezing! Had the heating on a few times since the end of August, but only just changed from a summer duvet as the weather is so changable and it can still be mild at night. And it's a new build house which you would think would have good insulations, but most of the rooms don't retain the heat at all!
  • My heating clicked on at 15 this morning. Brr. But I'm in central scotland.

I'm in a new build too and crazy as it may sound, I think having an integrated garage is making it colder...
