DS put it on for half an hour before he had a bath. thats the only time its going on hopefully before baths. Although he did say he thought it should be on all the time as the weather was getting cold. he was standing in front of me wearing a vest and shorts at the time i told him thats what jumpers and trousers were invented for.
  • Mine is on tonight as I had to do some emergency washing earlier that needs to be dried before bedtime but its going back off again tonight for a couple of weeks yet hopefully.

Its not cold here during the day at the moment but it is getting chilly in the evenings. Luckily the boys don't feel the cold and I can cope easily for a couple of weeks with an extra layer and my furry slipper boots :D
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x

Just been camping (tent) for the weekend - got up Saturday morning and had to scrape ice off the car windscreen so it was pretty nippy. Anyway got back this afternoon and opened all the windows as the house felt like a sauna even without the heating on. We've obviously acclimatised to the cold - although I wouldn't recommend it without decent kit for sleeping in! Might delay the switch on for a few extra days.

  • My central heating hasn't been turned on yet, but we have a oil stove in the kitchen and it has been on since the start of September.

I have put a extra blanket on my bed as it is starting to get cold

I caved and put the heating on yesterday evening - I will keep the thermostat down below 18 degrees until the worst of the winter comes though, but I really did feel the chill in the house when we got in from a day out yesterday.
  • hubby has put it on, he pays the bill so if i dont put it on he cant have a go at me lol
Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T
  • I have storage heaters in my little house, so trying desperately not to switch them on yet cos I've been told they eat leccy, even on Economy 7.. :(

I've been using a hot water bottle, my dressing gown and lots of layers, and when I get paid again (12 days time!!) I'm going to buy a few more hot water bottle to stick under the little dog beds to keep them warm at night. A friend of mine in America is the queen of knitting and knits dog jumpers, so I might nick the patterns off her and knit them a couple of wooly jumpers :)

My house has also suffered for a damp problem in the past (was used as a *ahem* greenhouse by the former tenant), it has been treated, but there is still superficial mould patches behind the washing machine and sink... I worry that not switching on the heating will create more damp/condensation, even though I do try to air the house regularly, no matter what the temperature!

    Anyone got any thoughts?

I know how you feel - went to put mine on Saturday evening for a couple of hours cos it was bloomin freezing round here. Nothing happened and then realised not only did I not have heating, the hot water stopped working as well. Not a happy bunny this weekend and now wasting half a days holiday waiting for the gas-man to turn up!
  • I've needed it on a few times now more for getting laundry dry than anything else. Have no tumble dryer or outdoor drying facilities and was finding that simply letting stuff airdry was leaving them with that damp smell, so no choice but to whack the heating on for an hour or so. Noticing it getting chilly on a morning, but will try and wait till October before it goes on properly.
