It's not -14. The "-" is being used as a pause. I had to read it twice as well. So the actual temperature was 14 (plus).

Phew thanks for that , !!!
  • Apparently it's about 10°C here in bonnie Scotland. Is that cold? I'm no good with those kinds of numbers! It's only September; the weather up here can and will get worse and I know I'm going to need the heating on later on in the year, which is hideously expensive with our electric heaters (no gas!), so I'm really reluctant to put the heating on!

I'm sat here, wrapped up in a duvet, so maybe I'm being a bit mean and should really just give in...
  • Yes unfortunately I had to give in, when my boyfriend comes to stop despite wearing a huge jumper he still thinks my house is like an iceberg, me and the kids are used to it, and don't feel it now, but he sits there shivering, he's coming tomorrow so It will be on grrrrr!! he lives in a flat in a tower block and its always lovely and warm!! I'm going to move us all in with him for the winter lol!

We had a big debate one year in my office about when my colleagues were 'allowed' to put the heating on The general consensus on the more 'strict' oh's was mid October, so now the standing joke in our house is that we are not allowed to put the heating on until the 15th October at least (we never last until that date:D).

It is a bit parky this evening but we won't be putting our heating on anytime soon, I am still paying off the bill from Jan/Feb when the arrival of our newborn baby required the heating to be on 24/7. I have to try to last as long as I can before I put the heating on as once it is on I have to have it on all day and all evening while I am in the house as I really feel the cold - even with a big thick jumper!

We tried, but the radiator bleeding key snapped (maybe it was too cold :D) and rads full of air don't really have that much effect...
    :wall:
  • Mne isnt on yet, but i was a bit chilly last night, not enough to warrant the heating on though.

Mine went on today for about an hour because I was really cold. I refuse to use dates to decide whether or not to put heating on - spent too many years at school and at work waiting for those dates to come around so that I could actually be warm! I also spent too many years living in my current home without central heating to not take advantage now I have it. I will never understand people who take ridiculous "pride" in holding out as long as possible before taking advantage of instant heat. Obviously if one is going to struggle to pay the heating bill then it makes sense to wait as long as possible but while I can afford the bills I'm going to be warm no matter what the calendar says.
