In my experience yes. Its very easy to promise something if you know you never have to follow through.

In the situation you have just described, i'd be happy to help, but then most of my family actually like each other.

As discussed previously, there's no minimum age in law for leaving children overnight, the NSPCC have some sensible guidelines re not leaving 16 year olds overnight alone and obviously being in charge of younger kids adds more responsiblity.

I'm curious about this, because I'd consider a 16year old to be sensible enough to be left. (I'm disregarding wild parties here because they'd still be doing that at 21 if so inclined)

As far as leaving a 14 year old in charge of younger siblings overnight, I'm just reaching the point that I'd consider leaving mine on their own for a couple of hours in the evening, but within walking distance and with my phone.

Why would Social Services be interested in a 16 year old being left over night, when a 16 year can leave home, join the army or even get married?

I don't think anyone has suggested that social services would be interested, just pointed out that there are guidelines for parents if they wish to follow them.

  • Sorry I meant under 16s, bit overtired yesterday! The 16+ for overnights is an NPSCC recommendation.

Thank you,yes I think i'm going to have to get a friend to make the call. I'm going to say tho that I don't want to know when she has made the call, just so I know as little as possible(if that makes sense).
The sooner the better I hope though. Who cares how other adults will react? The children come first. Or at least they should. Someone out there must care enough to take the first step, before all that is left are a lot of regrets and if onlys...
