I think it takes a while for them to update their system with your new price tariff. I rang at the end of August and my Sept payment did not go down, but the recent one has. It might be worth hanging on to see if they reduce your next payment.

Trying to arm myself with information before I make enquiries about sky+.

If we get sky+, we keep our existing sky box - right? I don't particularly want to pay for multiroom, but it would be helpful if I could still get some channels from the old box in the kids room. If I didn't have multiroom, would I be able to get a basic package - main channels needed being cbeebies and citv - I notice these channels still work if you take out the sky viewing card.

    Can anyone confirm for sure?

Also, the people that have been offered sky+ for £79 - are you having to pay £10 for multiroom to get this price? Or do you have to have premium channels, ie sports or movies? At the moment we are paying £50 for the full package and it really isn't worth it. Got to keep footie channels for DH, so planning to downgrade to the sports package and get sky+.

Notsure about your 1st point but I phoned to cancel from the full package as the picture kept freezing on the Sports channels. They offered me £10 a month off, so I dropped the movies too now paying £27 a month. Tried the tests they told me about to sort out the freezing but still no good so phoned again to cancel, offered a service call for £64 or Sky+ for £79, same monthly fee. I mentioned multi-room and the price of Sky+ came down to £49 BUT £10 a month multi-room subscription to pay, so not true money-saving but it will keep Sponge Bob out of the living room!!

Exactly - doesn't kid's telly do your head in!?? How I hate the Fimbles!!

Have since found out from another thread that my old box and ex viewing card could still pick up cbeebies, citv, cbbc, pop and tiny pop so definitely no need for multiroom for the time being for me (spongebob not being on DD's viewing menu yet fortunately).

So back to question of what is the best sky+ deal I should hold out for without multiroom?

Should be able to get Sky+ for £79 installed, you have to sign up for another year though, if you keep the Sports you wont have to pay the Sky+ subscription.

You could try the 2 pronged approach that I used. I wanted a discount and a free "service call" but they werent prepared to offer me both at the same time so I opted for the discount, no contract change, just a straight 20% off for 6 months. Then the next day I phoned back and said the picture was un watchable, it did keep jerking and freezing, they then suggsted I went for Sky+ at £79 as this involves a new "lnb" and box. I reckon this was the best way round it as if I had gone for Sky+ first, I would have been contracted at the new price for a year with no option to get a reduction.

To sum up I got the sports package for £27 for 6 months, then Sky+ for £79, hope this makes sense.

Thanks pompeyrich. Did you manage to get these deals by going through to cancellations or was it just the customer services bit you spoke to?

Went through CS, explained I wanted to cancel because of cost and poor picture, they then put you through to cancellations who try to keep you as a customer with various offers. Don't panic they need you more than you need them.
  • cancelled Sky about 6 months ago! They rang me a couple of weeks ago and a nice chap asked me what channels I missed watching, I said just the sports really and occasionally Sky 1 (Simpsons!! lol).
As I had been a long term customer he said I could have ALL 3 sports channels and 2 entertainment packs for £5 a month for 4 months with no extended contract!! As the footy season is now well under way I said thanks, ok then!! He then said when I ring up to cancel again 28 days before the 4 months is up (he even gave me the date to ring!!) to haggle again, and they would do me another deal then.
They sent me a new card, and when I rang to activate it, I spoke to a young lady who went through my account with me - she activated the card which took about 1 minute, and when I said I was using a sky+ box and I had all the sports channels, she activated sky+ for me as well!!!
Hope this helps someone when haggling!!!
