Right I think this thread should be drawn to a close now it is getting too much....I have got the situation resolved the person in question is getting shadowed for a while and is being re-trained,apparantely a further complaint has been made....I have declined compensation I have asked for it to go to the deaf society if they really must pay something,I am not in favour of gaining anything other than an apology from this whole unfortunate incident.
By the way I am deaf, lol but my lip-reading skills obvioulsey are as if I could hear as when it is all you have known then it's easy-peasy,and before you all jump on me I did lip-read the bloke so know what he said didn't mis-hear so to speak........
As for badges for learning-dis I think you will find that some to wear a very discreet badge somewhere on the lapel stating the patience required on some occasions but this is down to the individual with the learning problem, this is obviousley such a wide spectrum that the debate on this could go on forever.
Remember the only *important* thing here is that learning disabled can have empowerment,I have been campaigning for years just so they can have the feelings we all take for granted, clubbing, marriage, shopping,oh I could go on and on.........I too know what it is like to be on the receiving end of discrimination and what we dont want is to be reminded that we are so *different* to the *normal* people. And another thing there is good and bad in everyone even learning disabled some are clever, manipulative and highly in control of situations, something most people are not aware of.
End of my rant anyway, please dont jump on me for what I have wrote it is after all my opinion whether you agree or not.

I'm very sorry, I haven't read the whole post so if this has been said already and I'm repeating anybody I apologise, but if anybody ever, ever asks me how many times before i conceived i will let everybody in the store know I am very upset about it. Anybody would be upset by an unqualified comment like that and rightly so. You're quite right to stress about it Beckie and noboyd should go out their way to stress anybody, let alone a pregnant woman. Is there no respect for anybody anymore?Student loan no more

"he was creepy with a really effeminate mannor (not against that by the way)"
how did this manifest itself to you? i presumed (quite wrongly it now turns out) that you deduced this by speech0 -
Do you thnk everything is done by speech alone? There are mannerisms, body language etc etc,I am deaf and I lip-read but am not totally, I can hear high pitched and this was most definatley prominent in his case,I will go into every nitty gritty detail if you wish,I will mention how he licked his lips when asking about the conception ,I didn't mention before as concluded this was way too much information,I know when somone is being not friendly and a normal conversationalist he was eyeing me big time, the whole thing didn't have to be deduced by speech alone. And when he mentioned the conception I was looking at him as I was looking to see if he had put the meat into another bag,so that is maybe a minor detail but I will go into everything else if you like.
I should have gone straight to CS I realise that now,but I was tired, shocked, angry, upset and had quite a drive to get home and my friends baby was crying with hunger........

sometimes when you're in a hole stop digging
Not sure what you mean.
My suggestions were sincerely meant even if some don't agree (and that's fine for people to disagree).
If you really believe that I'm way off the mark then why don't you try to educate me as some others have done.what do you normally do when speaking to someone in a shop ? aaargghh!
A bit silly but let me explain it.
If you are packing bags at the checkout then you might be looking away from them to try and get one of the plastic bags off the pile (which are often in the other direction from where they are sat).
You might lean down and put a heavy bag on the floor or pick something up.
You might lean over to the end of the checkout to put down a handbag as it's going to continually fall off your shoulder whilst packing.
You might have a tissue to your nose cos it's running.
If you have several kids you might be keeping your eyes on them instead.
There's 5 reasons and I'm sure there are lots more.
Normally most people would carry on talking whilst packing their shopping.
I don't know whether you ignore a big line of waiting people, but most people would try to get on as quickly as they could rather than holding things up (which you would if you stopped packing everytime you needed to communicate).
BTW - My building society has signs up for people training. A local clothes shop has badges for people who are new and training.
I really don't see that I'm so wide of the mark as this is already in use by several companies.
These people don't seem to feel humiliated and labelled, but it's useful to both staff AND customers.0 -
What is with all the abuse in this post.
Did Bexxie90 not have enough abuse and hassle by the cashier without getting more of a hard time on here.
The saying goes if you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing.
Discussing mental health issues and the rights of the disabled surely does not really have a place in this thread as there was no evidence that the person was either. Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

Hi
do you think this thread should not be closed? I am new to the site and I come on to look at ways to save money, not to read people having discussions about the philosophical dilemmas within society!! or to insult each other.
no-one got anything happy to say?0
