I am thinking of purchasing a SC. I have just looked at a price comparison website and see that they range from £15 to £40. Is there a general concensus about which is the optimum make and model. I have always maintained that quality manufacturers, whilst not necessarily the least expensive, are cheapest in the long run. I am sure that one could purchase a SC for less than £15 from say Kelkoo.

Any help would be much appreciated. :undecided

Sorry I can't be much help. I personally have the morphy richards 6.5l & get on great with it. There are 6 of us in my family & it generally makes plenty. Thats with a hubby who can eat for England. Not sure what others say about theirs.
May be worth looking on a site for reviews if there aren't many answers on here.

You're never on your own on here Mike! Mine is great and is by Cookworks. Bought it from Amazon ... it's a large oval one and has low, auto and high settings. It was also reasonably priced (though I cant' remember how much it cost).
    Wins since 2009 = £17,600

    MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS

There have been several threads on the subject, and there may even be one or two in the main Complete Slow Cooker Collection.

Basically, it boils down to the fact (pun intended) that there's always "some" gap - but if you're losing liquid at a high rate the thing is no good.

Hi Mike, I only paid £9.99 for mine from Tesco's and its been going great for over a year with regular use, so i personally dont think you have to spend a lot on one, the Morphy richards ones always get good reviews.

  • I have the MR 3.5l and find it very easy to use.

Only complaint would be that the recipe book isn't much cop really...

Amazon have them. Less than £20

    Hi Mike,

A lot of people on here have recommended the Morphy Richards 6.5ltr, it's on offer at the moment in Argos reduced from £33.97 to £22.65.

I'd really like a recipe for macaroni cheese that uses uncooked pasta, as that would save me loads of time when I prepare it in the morning. I've spent loads of time looking, but I've never managed to find one. I've got a 6.5ltr cooker, so I can do masses!

All the slowcooker macaroni cheese recipes I've found on the net have been American, and I've no idea what a stick of butter is, how big an American cup is or what half of the cheeses they specify are!

    Thanks,

    Mermaid

It's difficult to cook pasta well in a slow cooker, although yes it can be done - but mostly it goes all mushy and horrible.

    A cup is 250 mil.

Just use a measuring jug - even for DRY ingredients - and fill to that level per cup.

A stick is 40z I think... but check the Cooking section of the MEGA Index via "Our Indexed collections" sticky and there are links to conversion sites there.
