Sorry to hear your meal didn't turn out well kazd.

FWIW a few of my first meals didnt come out well either, but I've persisted, adapted timings, ingredients etc along the way, and am now pretty happy with what comes out!

What exactly was wrong with it?

    :hello:
I have a gammon joint which I'm going to put in the slow cooker today. Looking through the index I've found some really good ideas for cooking liquid including apple juice or cola. I have neither of these but I do have the remains of a bottle of Appletiser (fizzy apple juice) - shall I try that? What d'you all think?

    TIA

I am poised to buy one of the Morphy Richards slow cookers that so many of you seem to love. I am not sure which size to buy, and was wondering if you can roast a (smallish) chicken in the 3.5 litre size one?
I usually cook for 4 (including 2 children) and I don't tend to make extra and freeze, so don't think I need the big one unless...I can't get a chicken into the small one. I've looked at the instruction/recipe book on the MR website and the quantities they state for the recipes for the bigger one are way more than I would use when cooking similar recipes.
    Any advice gratefully received.

How long should I cook a brisket joint before it disintegrates?
My kids don't like it stringy, and I just want it to be sliceable and tender.
The one I've got weighs a kilo.
Any help gratefully appreciated, as I'm new to slow cookers.

I have the morphy richards 3.5l one and I cook a small or medium chicken in it no problems. Cook on high for 1 hour and then on low for rest of day while i`m at work.

    Yum

Does anyone put hot water in their slow cooker to `warm it up` while you prep your veg etc?

Saw it as a tip in a mag-but have never done it.

I've had my slow cooker for donkeys years and looking at buying my sonand his girlfriend one.
My friend says she can put raw veg. into hers as well as the meat and it cooks everything.
I tried this in my old one and I think even if it had been in for a year, the veg would never have cooked.
Can you lovely people recommend one that everything can go in?
    Many thanks.

I have a Bellini slow cooker and I always put my veg in raw and it comes out cooked fine :D I did a curry in it last week, and put in carrotts, potatoes, green beans, baby corn, sugar snaps and onions - turned out fine.

I have a small 1.5l Hinari. Its my first ever SC and I thought I would have a dabble after reading so many positive accounts on here. Tried my local library and found no recipe books at all, not a single one!

A lot of the recipes in the index are for large quantities, serving 6 or 8. Can anyone recommend some basic recipes or recommend recipe sites that they use for serving 1 or 2 people? We love stews, casseroles, soups and the like.

    Hi
I just got a Tower Slow Cooker Model 2817D from Freecycle :j - has no lid and no instructions though! I think I have a lid that will fit but wondered if anyone else has this model and if they would either let me have a copy of the instructions or point me in right direction to find some that I can print off please?
I am keen to try it out but am not sure if slow cooking is for me really!

    thanks
