I leave the food to cool down in the fridge in any clean container, then when cooled right down, put in the freezer.

I've had my slow cooker for donkeys years and looking at buying my sonand his girlfriend one.
My friend says she can put raw veg. into hers as well as the meat and it cooks everything.
I tried this in my old one and I think even if it had been in for a year, the veg would never have cooked.
Can you lovely people recommend one that everything can go in?
    Many thanks.

Perhaps your friend likes her veg. very "al dente" or she chops/slices it up very thinly. I've always found with my slow cookers (and I've had a few) that the veg. takes much longer to cook, but slicing it thinly can make a big difference. Alternatively, fry/boil for a short while before putting it in the slow cooker.

Thanks one and all for the good advice. Will now have to make up my mind although the Morphy Richards seem to be a favourite. Will let you know how I get on. ;)

I have an approx 4kg Boned Rolled Shoulder of Lamb in one of those string vests. I had planned to cook it in the slow cooker ala keftiko style. Do you think that would work or is it to big. Intended to put it on in the morning and let it cook for about 8 - 9 hours. I planned to put it on a bed of new potatoes, carrots, onions and Red Peppers. Doused with some lemon and wine, garlic etc. Just slightly concerned that it might be to big your thoughts please. I have the 6 litre Russel Hobbs and was considering cooking it on high.

    Thanks

Sounds perfect. I did a leg of lamb today ... very similar except didn't put potatos in (I prefer them done in fresh water on the cooker). Family told me it was gorgeously yummy and very juicy .... smelt nice too .... I had Quorn Lamb Grills!!

I think it will cook fine, although would turn it to low after 4 hours otherwise it might start going a bit squidgy in the middle.

    Hope it turns out well.

Thanks for that I was a bit worried that it was to big and wouldn't cook through.
