I am going to cook a brisket joint in the sc tomorrow, do you think it will be nice if I use a tin of beer instead of water for it?
Thanks Lou0 -
Beef in beer is great, add some onions, bay leaf and carrots too for added flavour. I cooked this a few weeks ago with diced beef as someone had left a bottle of beer behind at a BBQ we had had last summer and my OH doesn't drink it! It was lovely.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Thanks Lou
This will be really tasty ... about half an hour before you plan to eat it, I'd add a little cornflour to a spoonful of the mixture, before turning it to the pot and stirring it in to thicken it a little, otherwise the sauce could be very runny.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
I have just bought a half price Leg of Lamb from Tescos
and want to put it in the slow cooker.
I just wanted confirmation of a cooking time and how much liquid to put in. The leg weighs 1.144kg.
Many Thanks in Advance

Cooking time would be about six hours on low, and the water only needs to be about 1cm (if you're not bunging veggies in and making a casserole) so that there's enough to make a water seal round the lid once it heats up.

Evening all
I got a SC for Christmas and am loving it. I wanted to cook a whole chicken in it tomorrow. Mine is a 3.5L one, when I was reading the instructions it said not to put a chicken over 1KG into it ....my chicken is 1.6
Now it will fit into the slow cooker and I swear when I was reading the thread about which slow cooker to buy people said they were putting chickens into the 3.5L ones.
Shall I put it in and see what happens or does anyone know of a reason why I shouldn't?I don't want to waste a good chicken!!
Thanks in advance100% MFW :j0 -

Does it have a make or model number on it? This may be on a small metal plate hidden somewhere or on the bottom.
If you can find out the make it might be worth searching for the company's website & emailing or phoning customer services for an instruction book.
Sometimes it's possible to download it from the website. I've just done this for my Morphy Richards breadmaker.:j New Year, New You = 1.5lb/12lb:j0 -

It basically keeps it at a sustained heat ... not too low and not too high. I find it keeps my cooking just slightly simmering, once it reaches this point. If you're out all day, this is a good option or, if you're a little wary, best to bring it up to simmering point/high before you go out for the day, then turn it down to "low".Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0
