We,ve just bought a freezer. Cant wait to fill it with HM goodies. Should be good if the weather turns bad, no more having to go to the shops.

i'm loving mine already. took me a bit to fill it but now it's nice i just go in and grab what i want for the day :T and last night when my daughter hinted she wanted to order takeaway delivery i just pulled out one of her favourite meals from the freezer and she accepted that just fine, before i would have probably given in so that just saved me a tenner!
  • its a nice blowy bright day today so I have got all my scarves and gloves washed and ready.

I have ordered flannelette sheets so i am waiting on them arriving.

I have got the first set of pipe roses

I have added a few more bits to my stash

I got a lovely wool blanket - the ones with the holes! from a lady that was going to bin it so that has had a freshen up

Instead of having to buy compost for my pots and winter bulbs I got a bag from the council recycling site - they have a huge pile of recycled compost that you can take a 25kg from - i havent got that much but probably 1 large carrier bag full so that has saved some pennies too. My carer took me yesterday and she got some too.

not a huge amount but all things that will help

    toots xx
    Peace will be mine

Thanks I'd love to join you! :D dd and dgd are in Oz which is such a long way away ... we used to have to rewind to catch the bits of film we missed when dgd sang and danced along (we love the old musicals!) she knew the words to all the white christmas songs and loved to dance with fred astaire :D

sorry back on topic :naughty: dsis bought me a slanket a couple of weeks ago and I just couldn't get on with it at all so I've donated it back to bil; I just found I had a gap at the back of my neck instead of at the front so I'll stick with my warm cardies and - if its really cold - a scarf around my neck. Thinking about knitting some fingerless gloves for when I'm at the puter :D At the moment my dd's are just about covering my gas and leccie but with the price rises I'll have to be a bit more careful this winter.

Hi, I use usb heated fingerless gloves year round while Im on the computor because I have RA in my paws, they take a while to come but they are so practicle and warm and most of all cheap!

I always pay by paypal for safety.

thank you sooo much for this link i've just ordered a pair, i have carpal tunnel so i'm happy to know these should help with that a bit, and my hands so often get cold at the computer (i work from home, all day at the computer so i can't get around that). these should help a lot

do you find the cords annoying, do you get tangled in them often?

also about how long did they take to arrive?

Afternoon all - just back bloodied but unbowed from the fields with 3lbs of blackberries (loads still to come so havent stripped the bushes) jelly and cheese tomorrow after a soaking to remove bugs.
Dogs were confused by whole procedure but didnt actually complained , just panted a lot because according to my thermometer it's 30 degrees in the sun - blimey who would have expected that!!!
Veggieblob your recommendation is good enough for me and as soon as I get my refund from Amazon I will get that one (was your comment about cash back just general or does it specifically apply to this product??)
Have phoned every Asda within 15 miles and no fleece blankets in any of them! I am not going to traipse 60 miles to get a cheap fleece I have decided it doesnt make financial or eco sense so will probably just go for one of the more expensive ones I saw in Sainsos.
I wish we had an Ikea nearer (MK is about 60 miles one way) too, not to mention a Home Bargains and Costco but then I mustnt grumble too much 'cos at least we now a Wilkinsons about 15 miles away.
debt free 2021 at current DMP rate[/COLOR] (probably be in an old peoples home by then)

Has anyone seen fleecy pjs for 2 years olds? He kicks off his covers thru the night and always wakes up chilly.

Decidely grey sky this morning, and its raining :(.

Someone bought my niece some from Primark .. cant imagine they will have been too expensive.. I got some for my lot from mothercare on 3-4-2 with quidco cashback :D I also got some velour ones in bigger sizes from La Redoute..

TBH Id just get him some cheap joggers from the supermarket and a fleece jumper.. the tesco value ones are probably cheaper than pjs

if he doesnt wet the bed a sleeping bag might be a feasible option?

  • I love this thread. Growing up in Canada I am used to the winter but I am not used to cold British houses, especially Victorian ones without the insulation.

Inspired by this thread we are going to try sealing around our doors & windows to help keep the heat in, as well as make a draft excluder and get a heated throw for when I am working at my desk! Yay! I really can't wait for that last one.

I was looking at prices of draft excluder tape and radiator foil and saw that Wilkinson had some good prices for those who don't want to make a trip to a big box diy store or pay postage (actually some of the things cost less than Ebay). See here.

    Happy preparing!
:A Thanks to all the lovely people who contribute their advice! :A

The delivery is slow, they are famous for it but the gloves cost a fortune everywhere else so they are worth the wait.

I don't get tangled in the cords, they are quit long and if Im going to be wearing them for a long time I run the wires up my jumper and down the sleeves like idiot mits (I sometimes have to use a USB extension for the desktop but not for the laptop or tablet)

There is a seller on ebay selling cream Asda fleeces - he says in the listing that he has 200 to sell - so I've just done a bulk deal with him as I have a conservatory with lots of curtains to line as well as other windows etc. Works out at about £2 a fleece (inc postage), and they are larger than some others (although couldn't see how big the Ikea one was).

    Hope this helps!

Just been into PoundTown - they have some lemony yellow fleeces in 127cm x 152cm. They are not very thick, but will certainly do for curtain lining :j

They also have some ready made draught excluders.
