Coo squeaky nd jamanda you are up early! Just wanted to say to all tha fleece jimjams are a thing from the gods - gorgeous enough to get into them ater taaking of sensible day clothes BUT oh how wonderful to get up and go downtairs to make a cup of tea and to feel SO WARM -especially places which normally feel cold. Its a sad thing to relate but this has been one of the nicest sensations I have experienced in many a long year (make of that what you will!)
I too want to bump up the cheap fleece alert please - my trawl around Saisos Mr Ts Lidl and Mr Ms was fruitless in tems of cheapness so any inside info would be appreciated.
Weather looks fairly OK this am so its rosehips and blackberries today.

    Morning Peeps

Tugrin - All the cheap fleeces that i`ve bought have been from Asd@, £2.77 each and i do believe that they are a little bit bigger than some of the others.

My living room is 98% winter proofed :D:j The only two things that i have left to do in there now are some wood to put around the edge of the laminate near the fireplace and a draught excluder for the door.

TBH they won`t be done just yet as we are off on holiday in a couple of days YAY! Hope that its warmer in Cornwall than up here :D

The outside temp is showing 9 degrees and the inside is 19 degrees so thats fine, DH reckons that the weather will be warm and sunny today *crosses fingers* so i`ve put an extra wash on, the first load is already out on the line and the rest will join it later. I might even manage to cut the grass - hope so or it will be like a jungle by the time that we get back.

The little jobs in the kitchen will probably have to wait a couple of weeks too, i have a wall to paint after sanding it, curtains to alter and line then hang and the carpet tiles to put down over the freezing concrete, i`ve just not had time to get around to doing these as i work shifts and have been soooo tired these last few days i`ve not felt like myself at all. We are hoping to get a new outside door on the kitchen before winter really sets in so i`m thinking that the carpet tiles would be better off fitting after that has been done anyhow.

I`ve got things stashed all over the place in here so will have plenty to keep me busy. I have a lovely satisfied feeling about me in that most of my prep is done and if the worst happened sooner rather than later we will be prepared.:j

    Happy prepping peeps!

This argument has been going on for years, and years, and will probably keep on going. They should definitely be in the non-VAT domain.
They have VAT on them, but only at the lower 5% rate.

    Hi all:j

Another Yorkshire lass here Sunnyday - yes it's a bit parky in the mornings now when I let the dogs out bbrrrr.:D Very glad of the Aga although as mentioned before, it's very expensive to run I think. It's an old lady - 1957 vintage - and has been converted to gas at some time in the past. I use it for all cooking, I have a creel (dryer?) over it to dry/air clothes & can 'iron' things on the lid. It heats the water also and the kitchen/back of house & generally takes the chill off if I leave the hall door open. For the rest we have gas CH & had the old cast radiators refitted which don't half retain the heat. But we don't put those on until we really really have to. With the high ceilings & big rooms it is a lot to heat - we also have open fires in 2 dowstairs rooms (and one bedroom lol).

Have a massive list of things to get done, but run out of cash atm until payday - a moveable feast since we're s/employed. Too much month at the end of the money:eek: However, I have I think got a man to come & clear out the guttering - it's really stuffed full of grass & etc. Trying to get someone to come & do it without scaffolding the house:eek::eek::eek: is a nightmare & forget window cleaning upstairs. Anyhow, this guy is an ex-fireman so he said it's ok:T

Lots of blackberries to pick, chutney to make with windfalls, the list is nigh endless here
New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear

Hi Sashanut :hello: i envy you the aga *slight tinges of green adorn my cheeks*:rotfl:

Don`t envy you the bills though
We have an old back boiler which although i`m led to believe is not as efficient as a new boiler has done us proud since we lived here.

Our first years bills were stupidly high so the next summer i sat down with the crumbling instruction book and changed a setting on the boiler, since then its been fantastic and the bills have come right down. We had it serviced this year for the first time and the gas fella asked about the setting and i told him how i`d changed it and he told me that it was a really good thing to have done so i`m quite proud of myself :D If i hadn`t had a nosy around on the net i would have been none the wiser and it would still be guzzling gas.

Our guttering has some leaky spots but really needs replacing altogether, the bay needs some work first though so its not really worth doing the guttering for it all to come back down again BOO! I have to save for so many things atm but we are getting there albeit slowly.

Woofaloes are tormenting for their walk now lol, they don`t know that its going to be an hour later than usual today, i keep getting soft toys thrown at me :rotfl: They don`t seem to mind the temperature when its walkie time but try getting the oldie to go out before bedtime and you will have a job on your hands, he must have a bladder like a carrier bag and i sometimes have to tempt him with a biscuit when he`s in stubborn mode :o

Today i will be chutney making, as soon as this cuppa is finished i need to do some serious chopping. I need to use up all the bits in the fridge before the hols, quite looking forward to the aroma drifting through the house too part of my winter prep every year is making jams and chutneys etc, still nippy outside although the temp has risen to 12 degrees now and i have the back door open, the crisp fresh air is lovely.

Have absolutely decided to send the useless Trevor Bayliss eco-lantern back - spent 2 minutes winding and got less than 2 minutes light for my pains (and winding strenuously was indeed a pain).
Can anyone recommend a RELIABLE wind up lantern (not a torch) or are they a good idea on paper but all rubbish in reality? Would I be better off with mains rechargeable torch or (scary) a primus or one of those tilley lamps for emergency lights? I have got candles but I really got caught out the last 2 winters - we get long and frequent powercuts (not to mention the same with the water - have got bottled water in already!)
:) Hi Tugrin, I'm taking a Rolson wind-up lantern (£5.99 from the hardware section of the discount store) camping for a week from tomorrow. I shall report back to the thread on how it behaved itself on or after 12/09.
