Business Account - reclaiming bank charges

  • I am looking into reclaimimg bank charges and noticed on my husbands business account (self employed builder) the bank charged him £170 every year for arranging his authorised overdraft, (/£5000) does anyone know if we can claim this back?
  • I'm about to start the reclaiming process and I'll be writing to Natwest to get details relating to three accounts:

    My present current account
My old current account which they closed down when I was ill and got into arrears (all now paid off)
My old business sole trader account which they closed down when I was ill and got into arrears (all now paid off)

Firstly, does one cheque of £10 for the three accounts do the job or do I need three?
Secondly, do I keep personal and business accounts separate?

    Thanks

    hiya
one cheque and ond one letter stating both account numbers is definitely ok for your personal accounts, i'm not too sure if your business account should be separate though. Although for your data protection request i'd imagine it would be, then seperate for the rest of the claim..

hello, new here, please forgive if sound silly.

    a couple of questions:

my friend and i both have a business account with HSBC and being charged a fortune for any activity of the account, including deposit money, they charge for everything anything. this adds a lot of stress to struggling small home run business, my friend therefore tried to claim back more than £2000 bank charge, and hsbc just closed down his account, no pay back.
i wanted to claim but didn't because of what happened to this friend.

is this normal practice? did this to happen to anyone?

what can my friend do?

The charges to which you refer are charges for operating the account and do not fall within the realms of charges that can be reclaimed under the campaigns on this thread.

Some banks will offer you free banking periods (where these charges would not be made) for 6 or 12 months to move your accounts to them but will start charging you again afterwards. Others such as Co-op, Abbey or Alliance & Leicester will offer you 'free' banking for life but will impose limits on each type of transaction per month before they will start charging. This may be a better bet for you depending upon what type of business you have - if it is a heavy cash handling business such as a pub, you may find the service available from places such as Abbey quite limiting.

  • Any ideas if I can claim back bank charges on a business account with Lloyds TSB? Does it matter if it's business or personal?
