  • Please let me know if you get an answer to this. I am having a lot of problems with a business account and it hasn't even been open for 1 year yet....no back up or support from them for a start up business....that wasn't what the ad said! They are hammering me with charges due partly to their staff and lack of communication...but I am footing the bill.

Of course you can claim. Business or personal, it's still an account and the law is applicable to it.
  • Please see reply from AlexV. We are certainly going to try and can let you know how we get on
  • Hi All this is my very first thread and i really could do with some advice on whats best course of action. I sent off to lloyds Tsb for my statement on a business account which is now closed. This is the reply i got.
I refer to your recent request for copies of statements on your account to enable you to reconcile your bank charges. Please find enclosed details of charges going back to when you first opened the account. If there are no charges fo a certain period then charging details will not be included. The letter then goes on to say, You may now wish to proceed with your claim for reimbursement of charges but, if you do feel you need further statements, this will take longer to access our archived data. Please let me know by returning this letter in the attached pre-paid envelope and i will order them for you. Under data protection act, we are allowed up to 40 days to fulfil your request.

i have looked at the attached charges and they state the type of charges as mainly cheque service charges, arrangement fees and some unathorised borrowing fees. Please can someone tell me can i claim these back and if so can i claim them with interest added on. I would really appreciate some advice on this asap. Thanks:confused:

    Hi Everyone

I have a business and i have calculated that in the past 6 years Natwest has charged approx £4000 in business charges - which involves paying money into the Business account, cheques as well as direct debits. I'm i able to reclaim this money back?

If these were penalty charges, i.e. charges for exceeding overdraft limits and things like that then yes you should be able to reclaim them.
If these were business account service charges for things like processing cheques then i don't think you can reclaim these as they are considerer as a service and not a penalty.
  • Can you apply the same reclaim of bank charges to business accounts?
  • In reply to the last question,
in a nutshell YES you can.
This is my first posting on here,
    Hubby and I ran a business,familiar story,
    bounced direct debits,overcharging etc,
luckily I have all my bank statements.ledgers.
    Sold business in 2005
I didnt bother to send bank statements with first letter,
I listed each month of charges and interest =£4200.
Received letter back from bank with an offer of £3800.
I was happy to accept that.
The account was credited with that amount, which paid of our
    overdraft.
I withdrew the remaining amount in cash, and closed the account.
We had not been happy with the bank for a long time, and over a period
of time, opened with another bank, transferred everything.
    Worth it in the end.
Sorry if I am waffling a bit,
but so wanted to tell everyone our success story.
Now going to find my way around this site,
to say a big BIG and even BIGGER THANK YOU to MARTIN.
  • Does anyone know if you can claim back charges from a business bank account please:confused:
