  • Hi to you all,

    First time on forum.

I have a business account with RBS. I had to collect goods for a job, round trip of over 60 mls, when I went to the collection area I was told to go to the office, problem with payment I was told!

The bank had bounced my cheque, the supplier would not supply me unless I paid cash! Went back the 60 mls, got cash! returned again, and they would not supply me untill I paid £35 bank charge, I did not have it, so they closed my account! 19 yrs I have dealt with thic company.

My main point is: on checking my account, I was charged £120 ( referral )
£35 for cheque, another £35 for same, my supplier charged me £35 for same.
I lost the order ( JOB ) guaranteed profit of over £1500.00. and my manager said I was overdrawn! end of story!
I also got a letter from my car insurance ( same week ) saying the bank stopped my D/D, so technically I had no insurance for over a week!

Have I any claim against the bank for loss of earnings?

Have any claim against the bank for driving illegally?

I will be trying to claim back charges!

I am a one man business, fighting against the "BIG MEN" and I am losing....

No, I have lost! NAILED TO THE WALL!

Forgot to mention, been a customer with RBS for over 20 yrs.
had 6 business managers, all but the last two would phone me
to say I had a problem ( get some cash into account ) The last
two would phone me after they had charged me!

Thanks to the Lass from Edinburgh!

You can claim for the bank charges and you may want to go back the 6 years if there are other charges you can claim. You can't claim on the "normal" business charges such as annual/monthly charges, supply of cash, paying-in charges but you can claim for returned dds, cheques etc.

Read Martin's article, link in my signature, and follow the step by step guide.

Quick question: Can I use Martin's normal bank charges template letter for a business account or do I have to take one from the CAG site? Are they specially tailored there?
    Reclaimed thanks to this site:
£175 Abbey Mortgage Repayment Fee, £170.03 Capital One Bank Charges £418.07 Lloyds TSB Bank Charges, £2,671.55 Mis-sold Endowment Policy, all for OH

Yes, I've seen that one - sounds quite harsh to be honest. Couldn't I use Martin's slightly friendlier version instead?

Has anyone had any success in reclaiming penalty charges from their business bank. We are with Allied Irish Bank who have been shocking. They made us refinance our loan elsewhere and have removed our overdraft facility. We have opened an account with Natwest so having our account closed wouldn't cause a problem. We have racked up a few hundred in penalty charges over the last couple of years, mainly bounced direct debits and cheques, though we have never actually defaulted on any payments. What are our chances of getting anything back ? Niall

Yes I would think you can, I am just about to start on reclaiming business bank charges withthe RBS, the letters are different from the normal personal banking template, look at the https://www.consumeractiongroup.com web site, for their templates to business banks. I know someone who recently got £7,000 back from RBS good luck.

Yes I can also tell you that Business accounts are fine! Its just a slight adjustment to the letter template and small claims form!
